Description
My harddrive decided to suddenly die on Christmas morning, but through some chance technical trickery I have saved this mod from the brink of oblivion. I do not consider this mod complete nor properly tested beyond ensuring it does not crash or cause major issues, so bear this in mind. This mod has been split into two mods to appropriately section off the scope of the changes between the Tactical and Strategic worlds.

EDIT: After a few days of work on both the Tactical and Strategic overhauls, I now consider these mods to be much more in a state of satisfactory completion, and ensured to the best of my ability that they are stable and most effectively integrate the new gameplay concepts. Leave a comment if you find any issues with the mod that I didn't catch.

This is a collection of experimental changes I have been altering and playing with for a few months, based loosely off of GnaRs WotC Tactics mod. These changes are born of curiosity and intrigue for experimental gameplay rather than polished gameplay balance, so if you enjoy experiencing new takes on how XCOM plays then this mod is for you. These changes favor using defense and tactics as your "health bar" rather than individual durability for units or even Avatar Project pips. Mind over matter on the battlefield, unfolding chaos in the overworld, and thus a story unfolds.

Tactical Changes:
-- Low Cover bonus changed from 20 to 50.
-- High Cover bonus changed from 40 to 100.
-- Wide Aiming Angles added as a weapon against the high cover values when flanking is inopportune, angle bonuses ranging from 5 to 95.
-- Bleedout for XCOM soldiers is guaranteed and the Bleedout state lasts for 8 turns instead of only 3, and soldier sight range while bleeding out has been increased to 5 tiles from 3. Bleedout upgrade will add 4 bleedout timer turns.
-- Downthrottling (AI steering enemy units away to make the game easier) will not activate until 25 units are actively engaged in combat with XCOM, instead of 4.
-- All unit archetypes (XCOM and enemies) receive varying flanking bonuses depending on unit type and force level of unit.
-- Second Wave Option Beta Strike gives x1.5 HP instead of x2.0 HP multiplier.

Enjoy, Commander.

Think 6 turns for bleeding out is a bit overkill

Just finished a campaign with about 685 mods, this one included, and had no major issues! Thanks for putting this up.

Does this work with LWOTC?

do you think you can update and add in "delta" and "theta" strike swr?

Would this conflict with "SWR Aiming Angles WotC"?

These changes are interesting since the very first thing I do when I install XCOM (or XCOM 2) is set the low cover to 50, high cover to 100 and aiming angles to smoothly remove cover value as the attacker approaches a flank, but I'd never found anyone else doing that.

You should never be down throttling, if you are, just delete the game.
Valvatorez: has better ISP now Jan 16, 2020 @ 2:26pm
Is this compatible with the "I have the highground" mod?

Is there a way to configure some changes, for example, reducing the downthrottling threshold?

Thank you. I had a look. Quite impressive and it looks neat, with both the original values and the new values shown in the various Ini files.
It is difficult to foresee what the effects will be on strategic and tactical gameplay. It will however definitely be different. For the tactical side, my guess is that flanking movements will become the bread and butter of any battle.
It does look worth being tried....
Thanks
