Introduction
I've been playing the game for a while now and here are a few things I've learnt to help me progress in my games.
Player Roles
It is important for each player to have their own set of responsibilities. Communicate what role you would like to be at the beginning of the game and stick to that throughout the entire game.

Axe - You cut trees.

Pickaxe - You mine rocks.

Track - Place resources into the crafting cart and place the tracks.

Bucket - Keep the bucket filled up and monitor the train's temperature. You also deliver resources close to the train and are in-charge of dynamite.

Also, having each player with their own role also makes the challenge "Only 1 player picks up the <tool>." a lot easier.
Placing Tracks
When placing tracks; ensure there's enough space on either side for you to walk past.

This avoids:

- The train blocking your path
- Separating you from much needed tools and resources

Sometimes it's best to place tracks in places with the least resistance. Avoid going straight through the forest or rocks, go where your path is clear.

This gives:

- More time for you to place many tracks giving which reduces demand of responsibilities.

The only time you'll need to avoid this is if you don't have enough material to make enough tracks for the possible detour, most of the time the path with least resistance is the path to the train station.

Carts & Upgrades
The most important part of Unrailed is getting materials to make tracks.

It is important to get the max upgrade for your 3 main default carts (storage, water, crafter) before progressing onto the other biomes. The water upgrade is especially important before progressing onto the dessert biome as the priority of water increases.

The only additional cart you should buy are dynamite carts. Place all of these at the back of train and upgrade to max when available.

There may be other strategies out there, but this is the main one I see being used in most world record attempts.

You should upgrade your train only after having the max upgrade for your 3 defaults and when you feel the train is going too fast. Once you get to the snow biome, I prefer to prioritize upgrading the train all the way to the end as fast as possible as I believe the space (final) biome is easier than the snow and hell biomes.
Communication
- Say what role you would like to be at the beginning of the game

- Say what you need and what you're doing to help that

- Make sure people know you're doing the challenge

- Call out the location of the bolt on the map and a possible pathway

- Stay positive, this helps people remain calm during intense gameplay
Bolts & Challenges
At the start of every round; acknowledge the challenge and ensure everyone is aware of it, who will be in-charge of completing the challenge if required.

It's important to realize when a challenge is not worth it e.g. "Stack 40 commodities" when you're lacking resources. Although not ideal, it's better to skip a challenge rather than risking your train crashing.

During the round, be on the lookout for the bolt located on the map and ensure that it is collected before reaching the train station.

"The only cart you should buy is dynamite"
Hard disagree. Not everybody is going for world record and there's carts that will make your life easier.

The efficiency wagon makes every cart significantly better, basically making your entire train 2x better immediately. It is easily the best cart in the game. Even makes the dynamite better too. I see too many skilled players pass this up.

The auto-collector, when upgraded and near an efficiency wagon, will quickly load items from a very long distance away. This eliminates the most difficult job entirely.

The ghost wagon is nice. Consider it a luxury.

Any other wagon other than these is a waste of a slot, though.

Trying to lay the first tracks. How do you get rid of the bot that wants you to set a path for him? It runs around and pops up a message every 5th second and asks me to close the message... tremendously annoying?

@ShadowBlade8192 do you mean that 4 players with one controller is possible as 2 players on one controller and two on keyboard?

@garrotte you dont actually need to buy 2 gamepads, I only have one, and it is entirely possible to have 2 players on one controller if you use the split controls option

@Zughal, I suppose it doesn't work this way. 2 players on one keyboard (or two keyboards, but different control keys anyway) and 2 players with controllers. This game finally made me to buy a gamepad.

I really want to know how to play 4 players local with 2 keyboards. Help will be appreciated

I just play the game for 5 minutes and the keyboard control is really bad, it didn't respond to the click on the key you need to keep the key pressed for a second to get a respond. If i press the space key like a click i doesn't do anything i need to keep the space key pressed for a second.

@Bluevoss - if you press Q and then use space to draw a line, any "jobs" assigned to the robot that cross that line will be priority.
eg, you can use it to draw a track line, then press 3 for the robot to build a track following it, or you can draw a line through rock and press 1 and he will dig through the rock following the line

Does anyone know how to tell your other guy (in solo) to actually go somewhere when he does something. The game implies you can do this but I can't work it out.
