Description
This overhaul mod adds several new objects, items, research topics, and crafting recipes to ultimately craft your own research items (Materials, Kits, Data, Chips) in a way that maintains game balance.

ADDS PAPYRUS AND PARCHMENT TO THE GAME

After researching Gardening and Weaving, you can build Papyrus Farms and use the harvest to craft Parchment.

New Item: Papyrus (lvl2, abundant)

New Object: Papyrus Farm
research: Gardening
cost: 12 Boards + 6 Bricks (same as Herb Garden)
work: 40/40/30 (same as Herb Garden)
work to build: 560 (same as Herb Garden)
yield: 12 Papyrus

New Item: Parchment (lvl2, common)
research: Weaving
station: Work Bench
cost: 10 Papyrus + 5 Water
work: 32 (same as Cloth)
yield: 1

New Item: Book (lvl2, uncommon)
research: Weaving
station: Work Bench
cost: 20 Parchment + 10 Wool + 2 Hides
work: 128

ADDS NEW RESEARCH TO THE GAME

These first four are used for crafting research items.

New Research: Advanced Research (lvl2, Base)
requires: Logistics
cost: 360

New Research: Chemical Research (lvl3, Base)
requires: Advanced Logistics
cost: 1080

New Research: Plastics Research (lvl4, Base)
requires: Alchemical Protection
cost: 2160

New Research: Computer Research (lvl5, Base)
requires: Optics
cost: 4320

These last two are required for crafting Self Help Books and Training Manuals.

New Research: Human Psychology (lvl3, Base)
requires: Nursing
cost: 2160

New Occult Research: Advanced Psychology (lvl4, Occult)
requires: Intellect Boosting
cost: 4320

MODIFIES EXISTING ITEMS BY MAKING THEM CRAFTABLE

You may use books to craft Academic Theses and then into your first Research Materials. After that, each higher tier research item requires 4 of the previous tier, plus some extra appropriate ingredients.

Note that not only are most of these items very work-intensive, but with the research structure in place, you must always use at least one research item of any type before you are able to unlock the necessary prerequisites to craft it. In other words, you will already had to have obtained at least one Research Data by the time you're able to craft them. This may seem pointless, but it will ultimately reduce the grind to get 5+ of each research item after you have purchased or looted your first.

@Thundercraft Thanks, I'm glad you've enjoyed it!

And yeah, absolutely. I wanted to add it in a way that didn't make it too easy to get the items, but gave the option of crafting them from the lower tier ones -- but obviously, everyone plays a bit differently, so it's great that you were able to find your sweet spot.

Love this mod! But, personally, I felt the crafting time was a bit excessive on some of these things. Also, considering the time and effort to grow Papyrus and how difficult it is to obtain some of the rarer ingredients, I really wanted to nerf it slightly for my playthroughs.

So, I created my own patch to tweak things. And, as such, I thought I would upload and share it:

Ah, too bad. I was hoping the "light weight" aura from "feather of maat" necklace could be placed on an object, or something.

@Izuela - it’s been some time since I’ve done any modding for the game (or even played it for that matter), but I took a quick look through the configs, and it doesn’t look like walk speed can be affected by objects. I think it can only be modified from an interactive effect (such as a combat buff). And afaik, there is no way to trigger an effect like that from an object.

But again, it was only a quick look, and I haven’t touched any of it for a while so it’s not fresh in the memory, so I could be wrong.

It’s definitely a good idea, though. I’d recommend joining the Judgement discord and asking around.
