Summary: A First Glance at Meepo
  • The Micro-
Meepo is a very fun and interesting character to play. He's very different compared to the rest of the DotA 2 character line up. He's one of the only characters that you have to micro individual units in order to be successful. With the correct key bindings or hot-keys, Meepos micro should come fairly easy. Let's start with my Micro set. *I am not saying I have a good setup by any means, and different setups work for different people. I encourage to to expand off of this guide to find what works best for you.
In this guide I will be covering a "W" + "Left Click" + "TAB" Poof micro combination. Along with show you my way of splitting Meepos around the map to increase your GPM. I will also go over the Blink Dagger combination, and other little tips to make the most out of your meepo game.

  • The Build-
Meepo is a very squishy character early game. It is important to play very cautiously with him at start. Mainly focus on staying by tower *making sure in experience range* and try to get any last hits you can. I highly recommend buying a Stout Sheild at start. Meepo also has very good starting armor at 5.15, and his Poof ability at level one does 80 damage. So is capable of defending himself early game, however he is still easily killable. The build I am going to show in this guide gives you good armor and health regen so you don't have to go to base to miss out on gold and experience. This way you can get to level six as soon as possible.

  • Abilities-
Meepo has four moves which are Earthbind, Poof, Geostrike, and DIvided We Stand. Two are passive abilities (Geostrike and Divided We Stand) You net ability is very strange because you have to time the throw. It is similar to Pudge's hook. It requires timing in order to land. Earth Bindalso won't hit invisible units, however if you Earth Bind a hero they can't go invisible. Poof is Meepo's best move. Does a short channel then Poofs Meepo, teleporting Meepo to the closest target point doing a very good amount of damage. Geostrike slows heros and it stacks with Meepos. Divided We Stand is a passive ultimate which gives you another Meepo for every point you put into it. The Meepos can only carry boots on them, which carry over from the main Meepo. His Ulitmate is upgraded through Aghanim's Scepter, giving him an additional Meepo.

  • Tips/Tricks, When To Pick And When Not To Pick, Certain Builds For Certain Games, Where To Lane-
Since meepo has duplicates of himself, there's a lot you can do with him. This guide will show tips and tricks which range from Ideal gank spots to maximizing your GPM. Meepo can easily be countered, for example: Undying and Disruptor can shut down meepo easily. Especially if they lane together. I will be going over Jungle for Radiant and Dire. I will also be going over a mid lane Meepo. Most of the tricks I will be showing you the average DotA player will know.

This guide is a work in progress. This guide is ment to be fun and informative. I am not a great Meepo player. I ecourage users who view this guide to expand off of it. Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
General Meepo Information
Item Build Order
Build Summary

With Meepo I always grab a Stout Sheild and Tangos to start. I also like to grab a Ring Of Protection, that way I can grab a pair of Tranquil Boots at side shop. That is if I am in off lane start/jungle. If I am lanning mid I like to go Stout Shield and Tangos. Then Slippers of Agility for an early Poor Man's Shield. Poor Man's Shield make lanning mid with Meepo a lot easier. I usually just run a Stout Sheild off lane. If I don't go Poor Man's Shield mid, I try to grab a really early Bottle. I only go Bottle if I'm going to try an aggressive lane. For an aggressive lane I will be using my Poof frequently on creeps for increased GPM. That way I can quickly get out of lane and go into jungle. I still need to get tranquil boots before going into jungle. Once I get into jungle I rush a Ring Of Basilius. That way I can Poof more often before I bottle neck my GPM on my mana regen. After Basilius I can either go Ring Of Regeneration or Morbid Mask. All that matters is I complete a fast Vladmir's Offering. I think running a Vlads is nessesary almost any Meepo build. With Tranquil Boots and Vlads Jungling should come very easy while maintaining full health. At this point you should have 3 Meepos. You and your tank should be able to do an early Rosh if you want. Just make sure it's warded. If not you can rush a Blink Dagger/Shadow Blade for ganks.I like Blink Dagger more, however if they don't have wards, Shadow Blade is easier and more effective for ganking. If they have camo heros grab a dust of appearance. Always have a TP scroll on you. If you don't have a support that is running Mekansmn grab one. It will save your life a lot. With Major jungling you should be able to grab an Aghanim's Scepter at level 16.This is your bread and butter build piece. Allowing you to have one more Meepo makes you vary scary. If you haven't Roshed yet now is the time. You can easily solo him at this point. This is when your options really open up. If you need to push out your lanes grab Boots Of Travel. If you need more health to tank go Reaver then Heart of Tarrasque.

Meepo Micro

    What This Micro Does
  • This Micro allows you to do your Poof with all your Meepos at once, or individually.

  • This Micro is very versatile compared to the "Control" + "W" Micro. The "W" + "Left Click" + "TAB" Micro gives you more control over your meepos. This allows you to invidually Poof them in team fights, along with individually Poofing around the map to increase your GPM. This Micro allows you to utilize your Meepos in ways that will be game changing.

  • The Micro can be used in an all Poof AOE attack.

  • The Micro can also me used to eat Creep Wave for pushing, improving your GPM, and leveling. This is very important to do while playing Meepo.

  • This doesn't have to be used on all of you Meepos. If you are in lane you can use it to simply get early last hits and scare off the enemy heros in your lane. It also does a very good amount of damage to level 1 early game..

  • With this micro combination you can ahev your Meepos dispersed on the map increasing your GPM and experience. Then being easily able to call in your Meepos from wherever on the map they are needed. Meepo is a character that can take total map contol. You can have your Meepos inseperate lanes while jungling and looking for a gank.

    The Meepos

Like using the top number keys to hot key my Meepos. Now I already have TAB to cycle them, but hotkeying them too makes the microing a lot easier. I like setting my main Meepo to the 1 key. This is the Meepo that has all my items, so I want quick control of him.

The 2 number key I use for the rest of the Meepos. This way I have control of all other Meepos other than the main one.

The 3 Number Key I use to select all Meepos.

The 4 number key I use to select group 1 of my Meepos. By group One I mean Meepo 1 and 2. I am going to have my Meepos split, so I want contol of each group of Meepos.

For the 4 number key I use for my second group of Meepos. Meepos 3 and 4 will be selected using the 4 key.

For the 6 number key this will contol Meepo group 3, Meepos 5 and 6

    Blink Dagger Micro

    • The Blink Dagger is very Dangerous. Poofing all your Meepos in out of no where is devastating to the enemy team. Pulling the Micro correctly will allow the enemy to have little reaction time. I bind my Blink Dagger to F1. This allows me to Incorperate it into my mirco.

    • Okay so we have "W" + "Left Click" + "TAB" for our poof. Now we are going to add the blink Dagger to that Micro. This is how it's going to work. You get all your Meepos in Poof channel, then in poof channel, select your main meepo and blink at the enemy team in mid channel. This is going to take some practice. Here is our new key combination:
      "W" + "Left Click" + "TAB" *Repeated 6 Times* + "1" + F1" + "Left Click"
This can be change in my different ways. However though this method, you can double tap the Blink Dagger to blink towards your fountain

    • I highly encourage you to play around with this. Try different bindings and find out what works for you.

    • A simpler way to do this is a "Ctrl" + "W" + "1" + "F!" + "Left Click".
This way all your Meepos channel the Poof with one key binding, intead of having to repeat the "W" + "Left Click" + "TAB" micro six times.
EARTHBIND
Earthbind is Meepo's crowd control ability. Meepo throws a net that catches all units in a 220 area. It has a vary big AOE for an ability like this. The units that are caught in the net cannot move, blink, go invisible, and it interrupts channeling. This ability has many uses, such as controlling movement of units in team fights, trapping enemy units that tower dive early game, initiating ganks, preventing enemies from escaping, and casting defensively for escapes to name a few. Even though Earthbind has a large AOE and you can cast it multiple times in a row, it has a pretty long cast time. You could almost compare it to Pudge's hook when it comes to timing. I will try to explain a few ways to make Earthbind easier to land and more effective.

    Small Micro for Earthbind
  • There's a small micro for Meepo's Earthbind. Since you can have up to six Meepos, you can throw up to six nets at once. Improving you chances of landing a net, or throwing them constantly after one another to immobilize an enemy unit for a longer period of time. The micro to cycle through you Meepos to cast multiple nets is: “Q” + “Left Click” + “TAB” + “Repeat” I would consider this micro harder to pull off than the Poof micro, I also would consider the Poof micro is more important to learn first. The Earthbind micro is really helpful to know and it can decide out comes of games. If you can properly cycle through these micros and use them effectively in games, you are on your way to becoming a better Meepo player.

  • Leading off with your net is really important. Mostly you will find yourself anticipating the enemy's movement to land nets. I is fairly difficult judging where to throw your Earthbind. For myself I achieved a better Earthbind judgment through game play. You really need to simply practice this in order to find the sweet spot of this move. There is kind of away around this though. However you can only really do this effectively if you can do the Earthbind Micro. What you do is “Q” + “Left Click” + “TAB” + “Repeat” at all the possible directions the enemy can go. This is very difficult to learn and to pull off in my opinion, but if you can pull it off it greatly increases your chances of trapping the enemy.
Divided We Stand: Why Meepo gets feed so fast. There's a down side to this.

Divide we Stand is a unique ability. Only Meepo has an ability like this in the game. It would seem that the only down side to this ability that if only one Meepo dies, they all die. This is not true. Divide we stand also corrupts all you allies GPM and EXP. This is because Meepo is actually leeching more EXP from his team because he counts as more than one hero. This is the reason you level so much fast compared to the other heros. It leaves no room for other carries on you team because they simply won't get nearly as much EXP from team fights and farm. Even after level 25 Meepo will still continue to soak up all the farm, making him a big risk if you have other carries on your team. Please note that update 6.79 removed 30% stat sharing on non-aghanim Divided We Stand.

Item Notes
Stout Shield
Stout shield eats up a lot of damage that would have been dealt to Meepo. I really like this item on Meepo for early lane farm and jungle farm. It keeps you from having to go back to base, and lets you be a little more aggressive. It;s nice in jungle too. In jungle, early game, creep camps can do some good damage. Stout shield makes the camps a little more forgiving.

Poor Man's Shield
I usually get this if I'm going for a mid lane Meepo. However this can be run in any lane. If a lane is giving you trouble, or you just want to me more aggressive, this is a great early item to go for. It will set you slightly back on your boots, but in some cases it's more than worth it.

Tranquil Boots
Tranquil boots will keep you at stable health for a longer period of time. Making it so you really don't have to go back to base and miss out on any gold. I even find myself using these late game. If I don't have boots of travel to send a low Meepo back to base, these are the next best thing.

Ring of Basilius
It gives you some good early mana regen, so you can consistantly Poof creep camps and Creep waves. This is really important because you want a high GPM early game. This isn't the perfect answer to Meepo's early mana regen problems, but it really does help.

Vladmir's Offering
I always find my self running a Vlads in almost ever Meepo game I play. It just makes jungling go much more smoother. With Tranquil Boots and Vlads, you should have no health problems in jungle.

Town Portal Scroll
I really do not recommend skipping out on TP scrolls with this character. I think TP scrolls are a must with Meepo. Meepo is almost always in jungle early game, making it hard for him to participate in team fights. With TP scrolls you can be more active in team fights throughout the game.

Aegis
Meepo can get easily focused in team fights. It only takes one Meepo to die for him to completely die. Ageis is a nice item to have. Not only does it give you gold and Experience for killing rosh, but you also get another life. You can then be more aggressive in initiations and not worry about a long respawn time. You can get this item with three Meepos. However I do recommend you take a tanky hero with you into rosh. Also I recommend you have ward sight around rRsh, or you put yourself in a good position to Rosh. What I mean by that is you have your lanes pushed, and you have comfortable knowledge of where the enemy is.

Aghanim's Scepter
Scepter gives you another Meepo. The more Meepos the better. It also greatly increases your stats. This is Meepo's bread and butter item.

Blink Dagger
Works great for escapes, ganking, and move evasion. It's a more complex item to make function effectively, however it is very rewarding.

Shadow Blade
Nice ganking item for Meepo. Is easier to use than Blink Dagger. The only down side is, like the Blink Dagger it only works on your main Meepo. If they have wards you can be a very easy kill. Other than that you can be pretty annoying. Sometime I run Blink Dagger and Shadow Blade. It just depends on what works best for you.

Boots of Trave
Makes pushing lanes very easy with Meepo. Also you can send a Meepo to fountain if he's low, and then just Poof him back in. This let's you be all over the map even more as Meepo. Meepo is a character you want to have total map control with. This is a really nice item to buy with Meepo.

Bottle
Not a traditional item in a Meepo build, but it does have it's uses. Mainly if you go mid this is a good item choice. I recommend having a support ward runes for you if you're going for an early bottle. I don't recommend going straight bottle. I usually go for this if I am going to be Poof Creep waves a lot early/ That way I can have some else go mid, and I go into jungle as early as possible.

Heart of Tarrasque
Makes Meepo pretty tanky. It's the ideal item to grab later in game if you are are snowballing out of control. Reaver is just a solid item for Meepo late game. If it leads to it, go heart of Tarrasque.

Power Treads
Another pair of shoes that work well with Meepo. If you feel the need for them disassemble your Tranquil boots and build these later in the game.

Armlet of Mordiggian
Another item you don't usually see. Works pretty good with Meepo though. A good strategy is having you main Meepo sit in base with it toggled on, while your other Meepos run around and do what they do.

Bloodstone
Because Meepo gets feed so fast he has really long respawn time. Bloodstone works pretty well with Meepo. Also pocket suicide is nice because Meepo is worth a lot of gold, deny yourself if you're about to die.

Drum of Endurance
A solid early gam item. Used for movement speed to hunt down enemies or escape.

Pipe of Insight
Really nice build option for Meepo. If they have a lot of casters on the enemy team, consider this item.

Ethereal Blade
If you're snowballing and you want it, go for it.
Tips/Tricks
  • Always use your poof as much as possible.
  • Play very cautiously early game.
  • Immediately go to jungle at level 6.
  • Don't look for ganks too early in game, focus on GPM.
  • Use your Poof as much as possible in jungle to eat creep camps.
  • Mkae sure you have mana for Poofs and Earth Binding before you Gank.
  • try to have your support ward jungle for you. If not ward it yourself.
  • Remember you can deny your Meepos individually to make the tower change agro.
  • Don't tower dive too early with Meepo.
  • Always have a TP on you for team fights and Ganks
  • If one Meepo in low change agro to another Meepo. Don't allow one Meepo to get focused.
  • Remeber you can throw you nets up to six times. Use Earth Bind a lot.
  • If a Meepo gets low send him back to base. You can always Poof him back in.
  • If you are full on items after Rosh, you can sell in Rosh area at the secret shop. Don't walk all the way around just to sell. While Roshing take you main Meepo in the cave corner and sell.
  • Always sell you stout Shield first. it's only good early game.
  • if you buy Mekansm don't forget to use it.
  • Split your Meepos in lane and jungle to level fast and to be ready for ganks.
  • Use you Tangos early game, avoide going back to base until you have level 6. That way you can still have a Meepo in lane getting EXP while the other one heals.
  • Only the main Meepo can pick up runes.
  • Illusion runes are great for Meepo. You can teleport to other illusions.
  • haste runes only work on the main Meepo
  • The double damage rune activates on all Meepos.
  • the regeneration rune only works on the main Meepo.
  • Poof doesn't work on special jungle.
  • Poof also doesn't work on Golem creep camps.
