Advanced LIDAR for Ship v1.2 (19-05-29) - Ready-to-Install Kit

Description
Here is a full featured LIDAR for Ships with most Advanced Features !

This Manual is totally illustrated to help your understanding, Real carefully each part if your LIDAR doesn't work properly ! Check your Wires if needed.

It's a LIDAR Mainly for Ships, but it's ok to use on Land Vehicle, but without Altimeter on it ! (Or Disconnected)

You MUST use only one Monitor by Controller. If you need a Secondary Monitor, you may use the Slave LIDAR Controller. (Always One Controller for One Monitor) (included)

Updated 2019-05-29 - v1.2
Changes :
- Fix : Removed Initialization Screen because Multiplayer caused a big Lag on the LIDAR
- Added : Now you can Switch between North or Vehicle Orientation Lock by Touching screen Anywhere !

Master Controller Options

Kit Color Codes

Color Code :

- WHITE : Needed
- Light Grey : Optionnal
- Dark Grey : Packaging... so ... Recycle ^^

Easy Installation

By Using Cut/Paste (Cut, not Copy, because wire will stay connected.)

WARNING : I disconnected the Altimeter from the Controller for Test Purpose in a Hangar. Don't forget to reconnect it for a Boat (not for a Land or Aerial Vehicle) !

- Load your Ship
- With "Selection Grid" and "Load Content" you can load this Kit
- And Cut/Paste each item where you want on your ship.
- Check all connections and Add Buttons or Seat toggle if you want. (List of All Connections below.)

Don't forget to check for the LIDAR and Vehicle Compass Blue Arrows (Towards the Front) and... all should be ok.

Step-by-Step Installation

- Choose a Monitor and place it on your ship, just Connect it to Electricity.

- Place the (Master) Microcontroller in your vehicle

- Place the Vehicle Compass anywhere you want. Blue Arrow towards the Front !

- (Optionnal) If you want to use the Detection Alarm, place a Buzzer and/or a Light/Indicator neat the Pilot Seat.

LIDAR CONSTRUCTION from scratch

- Place a Velocity Pivot no matters the orientation, Microcontroller will check it to make it turn clockwise.
You can use a small or medium pivot... no matters.
Settings : Max Power - Ratio 1:4

- Add a Compass on one side - Blue Arrow towards the Front ! (Same direction as the Vehicle Compass)

- If your vehicle is a Boat, you need to add an Altimeter on the other side. Or Replace it with a simple Block if it's a Land Vehicle.
This altimeter, on a boat, is here to evaluate the height of the LIDAR from the Ocean level to apply an Angle to make the Laser pointing the water at the gived Range to try to detect lower icebergs or islands at this range.

- Add a Tilt Sensor on top of a Wedge or block - Blue Arrow towards the Front
To Stabilize the Laser when the ship is hitted by waves.

- On top, place a Robotic Pivot with Blue Arrows towards the Front AND the Filled Arrow on Top of the Pivot (See Picture)
It's Important or the laser will go up when it should go down... and the controlle can't test the direction.
Settings : Speed : 2.0 - Max Power - Ratio 1:4

- And finally, place the Laser.
Settings : Infrared : Checked - You don't need a Red laser over your vehicle... no... (ok, just this time ^^)

- Electricity NEEDED for both the Pivots and Laser !
(Compass needs Electricity only for the Backlight)
- Buzzer and Monitor also needs Electricity.

Microcontroller Connections

- DATA Connections :

In order :

- LIDAR On/Off - NEEDED !
From a Toggle Switch, to Initialize the LIDAR and activate the Code.

- External Zoom In/Out - Optionnal
To Zoom In/Out from a Pilot Seat or external buttons.

- LIDAR Speed - Optionnal
To Change Rotation Speed. Lower speeds make the LIDAR more accurate.
If Connected, Set the Constant Speed Setting on the Controller to 0.

- LIDAR Tilt Sensor - Optionnal but it's better with it.
Will help the Lidar to Stabilize Vertically

- Range Output - Optionnal
Output the Range Value of the LIDAR

- LIDAR Compass and Vehicle Compass - NEEDED !
Controller use these values to compute LIDAR and Vehicle Rotation compared to the north.

- Distance - NEEDED !
From the Laser Distance Sensor. Really needed.

- LIDAR Altimeter - NEEDED for Boats ! And must not be connected for other vehicle types.
Help the Laser to point to the Water at the gived Range to detect lower things.

- LIDAR Angle - NEEDED !
Connected to the Vertical Robotic Pivot to Apply Angle computed from Tilt Sensor and Altimeter.

- LIDAR Rotation Velocity - NEEDED !
Connected to Horizontal Velocity Pivot. Controller MUST control it to check the Clockwise Direction.

- Alarm - Optionnal !
To Buzze and/or Lights/Indicator. Will turn on for 0.5 second if the Alarm is turned On and when an object is in front of the Vehicle in the configured range.

- Laser and/or Monitor On/Off - Optionnal
Automatically Activate the Laser and Monitors.

- COMPOSITE Connections :

- Monitor Touchscreen - NEEDED !
Controller will use this connection to get the Size of the Monitor. You can use ONLY ONE Monitor by Controller. If you need more LIDAR Monitors, you may use the Slave LILDAR Controller included in this kit. (One Slave Controller by Monitor)

- LIDAR Slave Monitor - Optionnal
Connected to the Slave Controller, values needed will be passed to the slave controller to only show values on other monitors.
Connections for Slave controller is almost the same, so i'll don't explain how it works here, if you need help, please comment below.

- VIDEO Connections :

- Video Out - NEEDED !
If you want to view the LIDAR, you really need this connection !

ive got this on my yacht and admittedly high in the air, but its reading the tips of landmasses only so im having to use sonar too. Any way to tilt it down a smidge to read shore lines etc?

i have installed this several times into my boat . every single time is the same outcome. it fails to render the landmass around me and i have no idea why . i have done the installation properly. if something is infront of you i get the beep, but nothing rendered on screen as far as objects or landmass. please help . this has had me stumped so bad i left stormworks for several weeks

Its works wonderfully on my yacht, It only has 2 problems, one of them is that doesn't look like a Lidar at all xD but that is stormworks fault, the second is you could integrate support for the radar block, this way you can detect and display objects as well.

@attlerex nope its limited by the range of the laser it uses and at the moment there is no other system to measure distance to terrain or any other obstacles
