Solar Biofuel Plant I

In 1 collection by NimrodX
Greenhouses and Farms

Description
This is for farming plant fibers to make Biofuel, Carbon Substrate, and Nitrocellulose. With this you won't need trees, for the most part.

You can also do this using a bunch of porable constructors (save the power use) using this Large Industrial Farm which is exactly the same as this BP except with no constructors and some related decoration removed.

The bottom two layers are designed to be buried under the ground. Use PgDn to bury at least the brown strip across the bottom of the building.

Enable the powersave switch in the control panel when not using constructors.

It contains 144 plant beds intended to be planted with fiber plants. This many is needed to make the effort worthwhile, and even then you still get plant fibers faster from harvesting trees.

One harvest of 144 fiber plants will make 56 biofuel which is enough to almost fill a single HV/SV sized fuel tank. Using all six constructors at once, this will take 2-3 minutes after harvesting. This much plant fiber will also make more carbon substrate and nitrocellulose than you are likely to use at one time.

There is also another version of this BP, the Solar Biofuel Plant II which has 12 small constructors instead of 6 large ones. At a cost of having to click more to operate more constructors it will process 43% more fuel in the same time period.

This is still a slow way to get fuel, but at least you can fill up a small HV with one harvest. It's more useful when spending lots of time on a planet or moon with no trees.

ideally the base will operate entirely with solar but there are fuel tanks and backup generators for when it doesn't.

I used regular concrete and carbon substrate to make the base to keep the costs low, and left out higher level items so its pretty cheap to build. The most difficult part is making 144 concrete plant beds and 144 fiber plant sprouts which will require lots of spoiled food to make nutrient solution. So you'll need a food processor and ideally another farming area to make the stuff needed to build it.

Already did that actually. I should link it in the description https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1634004405

As a suggestion about this: get rid of the constructors. You don't need them and the space can be used for additional storage, crop plots or whatever. Place portable constructors in front of the building, they can craft bio fuel but don't require an energy source. That way you can usually get rid of the emergency energy supply which gives you even more space.
Nimrod, what do you tink about building a modified version of this, at least without constructors?

Thanks. Yea I think they ought to make the fiber plants produce a log worth of fiber each and then reduce the amount you get from a log. Tree harvesting would probably still be faster but 144 plant beds to fill one small HV fuel tank seems a bit much.

Hm. Funny story: I just saw a post on EGS forums about fiber plants being too nerfed. That remembered me of a greenhouse bp I saw a few days ago. There I found a collection. subbed to 3 greenhouses before I realised who was the author. The creator of so many nice greenhouses writes about the one plant that always had an own greenhouse in my bases. Well done I guess :-P
