Support Guide for 7.20e Patch

A support guide brought to you by an Oracle spammer trying to get to level 25 on it.
I'll be giving my own opinions in supporting.

Introduction

In low skill brackets like mine, the damned legend bracket, support picks are generally ignored as support players won't be the star of the game. Why? Because of

gg noob no damage. end fast

Have you ever been in a situation where all 4 of your teammates have picked carries and it's up to you to support? I bet you have. But you should never do what's in the picture below.



Having this much carries makes it very hard for your team to get through early game, much more harder for mid-game. Don't talk about late game when you can't even get through mid-game.

You might argue that it works sometimes, but still, I've seen it fail more than it worked. It's time to open your eyes.

A little about me

I used to play support Shaman when I kinda first started out playing since it is a baby support hero. Not much skill is needed in playing it. Now I play Oracle, much lesser skills are needed. I've downgraded myself overtime.

But of course, if you want to win, play with a stack of 5. A reliable stack of 5.

I'm sending cat reinforcements to keep your attention to this guide.

Harass, deny, not last hit.

Harass

You may ask what is harass. Similar to sexual harassment but not exactly sexual harassment, you smack the enemies and you bully them out of the lane. Well, try your best to get them out of the lane so your carry has free farm.

Though, sometimes harassing the enemies will attract creep aggro to you. I have no idea how to explain nor any idea on how to get rid of it. I'm just a 3k pleb. But I do highly suggest you search up on creep aggro.

Deny

Since you are on this guide, chances are that you are new and you might ask what is deny.
Unlike League of Legends, you get to delete kill your own creeps. By denying a creep, enemies will not be able to get experience for the creep that you deny, nor will he get any gold from it. Although he does not get gold from it, you get to keep some portion of the gold from the creep.

How to deny creeps? When your creeps are below 50% HP, you can perform a force attack on it. It's like last hitting, but on your own creeps. Similar to cannibalism.

NOT last hit

Why not? Because you'll be slowing down your carry's farm. Which also means he'll get his items far later than usual people. Thus, he does not have enough damage output in fights and you lose the game. Fairly simple.

Pull creeps, stack camps.

• Why is it necessary to pull creeps?

-Because this is Dota 2 and not League of Legends. We have the mechanics that League of Legends doesn't have. Anyway, pulling creeps make sure that the creep wave don't push too far out towards the enemy tower and allow your carry to farm safely near your own tower. Having your carries farm too far from your own tower will often lead to a gank from the enemies and potentially killing your carry. Pulling creeps also allow you to have some last hit on the neutral creeps as well, and some denies on your creeps to earn that tad bit extra gold.

• Why is it necessary to stack camps?

-Because your carries can clear it fast and get a lot of gold from it. Not only gold but experience as well. On top of that, you can get 15% of the gold from the camp that you stacked when your carries clear it.

• But how do you do it?

-I don't know how to explain it in detail because I'm a noob so I decided to link you to a video on it instead.

Warding and Dewarding

If you are a position 5 support, this is where most of your money will be going into.
Position 5 supports are basically the player who buys most of the wards and dewards enemy wards.

• Why is warding and dewarding important?

-Vision is extremely important in this game. Without vision, enemies will catch you off-guard and send you to heaven or hell the death screen. With the power of vision, you can set-up ganks for your teammates and avoid ganks from enemies.

However, it is worth noting that smoked enemies cannot be seen by the wards.

• How and where to ward?

-As I am a lazy person, I'm gonna link you to the video instead of explaining it as it is too hard for me.

A support's mindset

A support must always believe in their teammates and do their best.
A support can't do much in late game other than relying on your carries.
You're basically free-riding on their backs once it reaches late-game.
Yes, I'm those people who likes free rides.

You have to be the morale booster of your team.

I, myself cannot do it all the time as well. I'm human, I do tilt sometimes, whether its at myself or at other people. However once a mistake is made, it cannot be undone. I learnt it from my friends. They do flame hardcore if you do something stupid, but they will never be stuck on to it that long.
With this being said, having a low morale team will only lead to bad games and losing games.
