Behaviour Score and what Reports and Commends do to it
Everyone used to talk about 'Shadow Pool,' but now we know about Behaviour Score. Players are matched accoring to both MMR and Behaviour Score. Behaviour score used to be a number between 1000 and 10,000, but is now graded: F, (D-, D, D+), (C-, C, C+) and Normal. It's back to being a numerical value and is now displayed on your profile.

I suspect there is also a hidden algorithm as I have maintained a Normal behavior score over 100-200 games of Turbo and Ranked and I've been getting people with D and C- scores at times.

Generally speaking, not getting any reports and under 10 commends will increase your score one level in 10-15 matches. Getting around 20+ commends will increase by two levels. No point going into this too much, as Valve is constantly changing things. Getting only a few commends and 3+ Reports will decrease it.

You can check your Match History and recieved Reports and Commends here: ... https://steamcommunity.com/my/gcpd/570?category=Account&tab=MatchPlayerReportIncoming

You can check your current Behaviour Score through the console in Doto 2: ...
Type " developer 1 "
Press ENTER
Type " dota_game_account_client_debug 1 "
Press ENTER
You then read the bottom line of the text that is output in the console.
Yes, you might *actually* not deserve those Reports
There are currently four existing categories to report someone, but there is no criteria or standards for meeting them. For example, you can and will get reported by the enemy team for Communication Abuse even though you did not use the Public Chat or even Public Chat Wheel.

Just because you receive reports and others generally do not get them, does not mean that you deserved those reports. For example, (A) people freqently get reported by both teams for Smurfing or playing on an account that was boosted and above thier actual skill. Or, anouther example, (B) you had a very vocal and bossy player on the mic who demands what the other players on thier team do - and you got reported because you didn't play to thier liking. Lastly, (C) if you are new and don't understand how the game works - just play bots or turbo with friends - because you will get reported if you anchor or throw a 30-70min match even if it is Unranked.

Remember the vast majority of players are easily led and typically are beta cucks. Yes, the report system is meant to penalise game-ruining behaviour such as Feeding - but it also fundamentally exists for the snowflakes that dominate the Doto playerbase and most reports are given because you hurt someone's brittle online feelings.

You can get reported even when you play an amazing hard support, win the match, buy wards/dust all game and never say anything negative. So from here on in, just accept that reports will come now and then - and might not be fair, but can be avoided.
Reducing chances of getting Reported
No matter how you play and win or lose, you will get reported; here is how you reduce your chances:

1) Avoid playing the first 1-2 days after weekly allocated reports reset.
(If people don't have them, they can't give them)

2) Avoid playing on the last 12hrs before weekly reports reset.
(Knowing they will get more reports soon, they will give you one for something trivial)

3) Playing with friends.
(Less potential players able to report you per match)

4) Offer to swap Commends with people, sometimes people would rather receive a Commend for themselves than report you.
(People that Commend you cannot also Report you)

4.1) Sometimes I call people's bluff when they say they are going to report me - I tell them "OK, swap reports" and then "Commend me so I know you didn't report me."
(Low success rate, but it does work - and feels gr8 when you Report them anyway)
Reducing triggers for Reports
There are heaps of posts and videos out there on the internet that tell you in order to reduce your reports you have to be nicer, more of a team player, be more positive, etc.

YES, that will help - but only if you were seriously lacking in those aspects already.

Here is my list of actual and practical things that will work immediately:

1) Do not say anything at all in Public Chat or Public Chat Wheel - not even "GG WP" at the end. Playing perfectly and clean a whole match and then joking "Ez Game" after a massive clutch win will get you a report. (It can also help not talking in Team Chat for the first few minutes until you size up your team's demeanour and if you want to talk to them at all)

2) Do not use Mic. Some people cannot play a game and stay 'in control' at the same time. When you are typing your responses it's often much more considered and usually during a pause in tense gameplay.

3) ALT + Left-Click on your Abilities before a big team fight or after an Ally dies so they know they are Ready or on Cool Down. Do this frequently throughout the match. Sometimes if someone is raging it's better to send that chat message than trying really hard to get off that inhuman disable; because they will die, see your ability on Ready and rage at you.

4) Make sure to follow the lead of your team even if they are stupid plebs. Remember, in this guide we are not here for the win, we are here to not get reported. Just die with them or kite at the end.

5) Do your best not to have a negative K:D:A - AND NEVER EVER draw attention or apologize for a negative K:D:A. Many people still think that a hard position five under-leveled support dying 10-15 times is the reason your team lost - or, will use it to divert attention from the fact they were a zero impact carry with a positive K:D:A.

6) Just let people take the lanes and heroes they highlight. When they think that putting their marker first means it's their lane - ask yourself, how can you reason with a person like that? Move on, let them report someone else who doesn't know better.

7) If you can, play a Hero/Lane that does not have a clearly defined 'role.' For instance, playing a CM/Safe or Invoker/Mid will mean there are things people expect you from you. Try play off-beat heros or roamers to avoid getting blame or criticism. People won't flame a roaming pudge that came to thier lane and did nothing worthwhile, but they will flame the support because there is 1 observer ward in stock or mid for not rotating every time they ping.

8) When you are on a team with a 2-5 stack, just conform and do as they say depending on how many and how vocal they are.

9) Put your Steam Profile on Private and disable Public Comments.

9.1) Have a non-troll username or DP.
Now, on how increase and maintain your Behaviour Score
You cannot play Turbo games when your behavior score is F or D. Yes, you may find a game, but it will take forever. Valve does this so it takes longer to get out of these lowest levels, but there are also less people for you to be matched with and therefore makes your searches naturally harder. Although it hasn't been advertised as such, being subscribed to Doto Plus (for whatever reason) actually decreases your que times.

Once you grind out of the Shadow Pool that is Behavior Score past D, you can now grind turbo games with other low behavior score players. Your objective is fast games, so if you're winning just go Throne and if you are two barracks down just casually throw and let your team get wiped - you lost the match, but your a real winner because you didn't get reported and your level is increasing.

In those games on the climb back up to Normal saying in post-game something like "Commend for Commend" or "Commending team and swapping" helps A LOT to get Commends. I never return the commends unless I like my team; I just bait the Commend because I'm a thug. However, if people are in 2-5 stacks, it can be worth returning the Commend as then their friends may also start swapping with you.

Once you hit C+ and Normal, you will need to pay attention to when you get reported. Once you get 2-3 reports you really should just grind Turbo again for the next 10 games and avoid Ranked unless you're playing with a 3-5 stack team. This is only so you can maintain yourself above or just under a Normal behaviour score + avoid chat penalty or the temporary Low Pool punishment.

So far to date, the special event mini-games that Vavle puts on have all counted towards games completed. These can be 'spammed' (due to being potentially very short games) and/or intentionally thrown to quickly increase your games played that count towards your behaviour score. I suggest doing these in a party of 5 so you can throw and re-que. Remember if you que publically with randoms they are still able to Report you at the end of a special event game, so throw casually.
My final thoughts
It's good not caring about Behavior Score and I typically really enjoyed being down there in the F levels; there are a lot of outspoken (and usually older) people that naturally get put their because they have no filter and would offend snowflakes.

On the other hand, some of the people down in below D+ REALLY belong there and are just legit toxic AFK jungle farmers or ragers who feed. Also, the other issue is that there are a lot of people with new accounts with sub 50-100 games down there and just don't care what happens to their accounts and make new ones when they get Low Priority.

Don't even bother playing Ranked and trying to climb in MMR while under 7000 because if you don't net a losing streak, you will get tilted either way.

Once at a Normal Behavior Score you will be matched with new players that are generally complete garbage or just toxic players with fresh accounts... CONGRATULATIONS!?! Anyway, it's a re-occurring theme, but not as bad as being down in the F level cesspool. XD

They should calibrate you with the account of the same level imo.
Imagine this, your account lv100, matched with lv 8 spammed account, he can just report you based on "fun" reason.
That's stupid.
