Description
In 1844, Parliament passed the act to build a railway between Exeter and Plymouth, and the final South Devon Mainline was completed in 1849. Originally, the railway used an atmospheric system to pull trains, which includes a pistol between the rails being pulled along by a vaccuum formed by stationary engines. This system was deemed unefficiant and the line was instead ran using convnentional trains. Many branches were constructed by the South Devon Railway, such as to Kingswear, Launceston, Buckfastleigh and many more. The company eventually amalgated with the Great Western railway in 1876. This 6K map allows you to recreate the South Devon Railway in it's entirety, as well as the parallel London & South Western Railway line via Okehampton. Experimental map sizes must be required to use this map.
