Detailed Crafting Guide (OUTDATED)

Here's a detailed text guide to crafting in SCUM! Please use the index on the side to find exactly what you need. Need something not on the guide? Comment below and I'll add it.


**DISCLAIMER** I haven't played this game in quite some time so a lot of this information could be outdated or inefficient. I will not be updating the guide due to a lack of interest. I bid you goodluck.

Character Creation

When creating your character, where you put skill points is a lot more important than most realize.
My best advise is to use this build (below) :

By leveling Intelligence up the most, you will be able to raise your Survival skill to the max and still put some into Camoflage. By maxing out survival, most crafting will be available. You can vary this a little and put more into Rifles (medium allows ammo crafting.) Sadly, at this time in the game, some cooking recipes still wont be available until cooking is able to be leveled.

Benefits of this Build:

• Can create everything up to metal chest.
  
• Pistol ammo available.

Defects of this Build:

• Can't create rifle ammo.
  
• Can't create all food recipes.

Stone Knife

The best thing you can do as a fresh spawn is to get crafting.
To start off you'll need a stone knife.


Gather some rocks off the ground (2 specifically) and make a knife. This will allow you to cut down small trees, bushes, make spears, and do some scale crafting.

Rope

In order to do a lot of crafting you'll see later on, you'll need to know how to make different supplies. These are simple but sometimes required for advanced crafts.

Improvised Rope:

Materials Needed:

• 5 rag strips
  
• Sharp Tool

Improvised Tree Bark Rope:

Materials Needed:

• 5 Small Sticks
  
• Sharp Tool

Spears

In order to go into a city or base, you'll need to kill the zombies that get in your way. Or you may just need a way to kill animals for food. This is simple and takes a few seconds to prepare for.

Wood Spear:


Materials Needed:

• Long Wooden Stick
  
• Knife, Axe, or any other sharp melee weapon

How to:

• Take your stone knife and cut down a small tree or bush. This will most likely drop a few small sticks and a long one if you're lucky.
  
• Repeat this until you get at least one long stick and this will allow you to craft a wooden spear.

Stone Spear:


Stone spears work the same as wooden spears but require a few more materials.

Materials Needed:

• Long Wooden Stick
  
• Rope
  
• Two small stones
  
• Sharp Tool

Metal Spear:


Metal Spears are a lot like stone spears but require metal instead of stone.

Materials Needed:

• Long Wooden Stick
  
• Rope
  
• Metal Scrap
  
• Sharp Tool

How to use spears:

• In order to be successful with a spear, you'll need to use first person to aim accurately.
  
• Next, hold the left click and this will show the path of your throw.
  
• Aim for the head of zombies or animal, then release. If you hit a zombie in the head, it will die immediately. Animal wise, most animals will take a second or third arrow, but goats will drop after one headshot.

Things You Can Make From Animals

Animals are easy to kill (except bears) and provide the player with many useful items. Most notably are: bone needles, food, skin, and sometimes body parts for wearing. This is how to use an animal for crafting.

Bone Needle

Materials Needed:

• 1 Bone (will be on the animal body after cutting into a specific body part)
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (rock knives can be used)

Steps (in order):

• Kill an animal
  
• Skin the animal
  
• Cut up a specific body part (the leg for example)
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create a bone needle

Improvised Water Container

Materials Needed:

• 1 Bone Needle
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (rock knives can be used)
  
• 1 Animal Skin (Will be on the body of animal after skinning it)
  
• 1 Rope of any kind or 1 Wire or 2 Thread (Needs to be 5/5 durability)

Steps (in order):

• Kill an animal
  
• Skin the animal
  
• Cut into a specific body part (for bone)
  
• Craft bone needle
  
• Find or create a rope (or use other material options)
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create an improvised water container

Improvised Boots

Materials Needed:

• 1 Bone Needle
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (rock knives can be used)
  
• 1 Animal Skin (Will be on the body of animal after skinning it)
  
• 1 Rope of any kind. Possibly 1 Wire or 2 Thread (I haven't checked if these can be used)

Steps (in order):

• Kill an animal
  
• Skin the animal
  
• Cut into a specific body part (for bone)
  
• Craft bone needle
  
• Find or create a rope
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create an improvised boots

Animal Skin Pants

Materials Needed:

• 1 Bone Needle

Steps (in order):

• Find 1 Thread
  
• Kill an animal
  
• Skin the animal
  
• Cut into a specific body part (for bone)
  
• Craft bone needle
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create an Animal Skin Pants

• Find 1 Thread
  
• Kill an animal
  
• Skin the animal
  
• Cut into a specific body part (for bone)
  
• Craft bone needle
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create an Animal Skin Jacket

• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create bear gloves

• Create bear shoes

• 1 Bear Head (Will be on the body once skinned)
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (rock knives can be used)

Steps (in order):

• Kill a bear
  
• Skin the animal
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Create bear hat

Improvised Backpacks

Need space? No problem. From the moment you spawn you can make a backpack. If you kill some animals and find a sewing kit you can make an even bigger one! Here's how:

Improvised Courier Backpack

Materials Needed:

• Improvised Rope
  
• 3 Rags
  
• Sharp Tool

Steps (in order):

• Make a stone knife and put it in your hands
  
• Drop your entire prison outfit (shirt and pants)
  
• Shred both the pants and the shirt
  
• Shred 2 of the rags, leaving 3 full rags behind. This will give you 6 rag strips
  
• Create an improvised rope. This will allow you to craft the backpack.

Small Improvised Backpack

Materials Needed:

• 1 Rope or 3 Tree Bark Rope or 2 Improvised Ropes
  
• 1 Animal Skin
  
• 4 Long Sticks
  
• 1 Needle (Bone or Regular)
  
• 1 Sharp Tool

Steps (in order):

• Kill an animal
  
• Skin and Gut Animal (Requires sharp tool)
  
• Turn bone into bone needle (Requires sharp tool) (Do this in crafting)
  
• Gather 4 long sticks (from trees or bushes)
  
• Find a rope or create multiple improvised ropes (as shown in previous section)
  
• Create a small improvised backpack in the crafting section.

Materials Needed:

• 1 Rope or 3 Tree Bark Rope or 2 Improvised Ropes

• 1 Sharp Tool
  
• 5 Rags (clean or dirty)

Steps (in order):

• Find a sewing kit
  
• Shred some clothes to get 5 rags (clean or dirty)
  
• Find a rope or create multiple improvised ropes (as shown in previous section)
  
• Kill an animal
  
• Skin and Gut Animal (Requires sharp tool)
  
• Gather 2 small rocks
  
• Create an improvised backpack in the crafting section.

Fire

Fire are useful in SCUM for cooking food and for speeding up blood-flow (maybe...) This guide will show you how to make fire tools and fireplaces to get your cooking done.

Fire Drill

Materials Needed:

• 2 Short Sticks
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (Stone knife can be used)

Steps (in order):

• Aquire a tool for cutting bushes or trees
  
• Cut bushes/trees until you have 2 short sticks
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Craft a fire drill

Skewer

Materials Needed:

• 3 Long Sticks
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (Stone knife can be used)

Steps (in order):

• Aquire a tool for cutting bushes or trees
  
• Cut bushes/trees until you have 3 long sticks
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Craft a skewer

Tinder

Materials Needed:

• 1 Short Stick
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (Stone Knife works)

Steps (in order):

• Aquire a tool for cutting bushes or trees
  
• Cut bushes/trees until you have 1 short stick
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Craft tinder

Improvised Fireplace

Materials Needed:

• 3 Short Sticks
  
• 1 Tinder or 3 Rag Strips or 1 Gunpowder
  
• 1 Sharp Tool (Stone Knife works)

Steps (in order):

• Aquire a tool for cutting bushes or trees
  
• Cut bushes/trees until you have 1 short stick
  
• Craft 1 Tinder
  
• Cut bushes/trees until you have 3 short sticks
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Craft an improvised fireplace

Fire Ring

Materials Needed:

• 1 Axe (Regular or Improvised Stone)
  
• 8 Large Rocks
  
• 4 Logs (full logs aquired from cutting down a tree)
  
• 1 Tinder or 3 Rag Strips or 1 Gunpowder

Steps (in order):

• Aquire a tool for cutting down trees (axe)
  
• Cut trees until you have 4 logs and 1 short stick
  
• Craft 1 Tinder
  
• Gather 8 Large Rocks
  
• With your tool in hand, go into the crafting section of your inventory.
  
• Craft a fire ring

will you make any suggestions in a different build now that bows are out, and need str to use properly? it's still a min 2 str needed to use the most powerful improvised bow (1 long stick + 1 bark rope = 35# bow => 2 Strength needed to draw properly) and arrows are just 1 stick + knife.

Maybe adding a percentage of what you need to achieve in order to unlock a craftable item would be a good idea to add. I always start with no skill in survival so i can farm fame points. Takes a little while until you can store your items.
