Shapeshifting Origin Tags - Definitive Edition

Description
Annoyed that you can't talk to a companion while they're shapeshifted? How about Fane not being "Fane" while transformed?

Shapeshifting Origin Tags is a simple mod that preserves origin tags when transforming into another race. It also enables companion dialogues, so you can talk to companions while they're shapeshifted.

Also includes LeaderLib mod menu support, for tweaking SOT settings via the settings menu.

Usage
  1. Active the mod and load your save.
  2. If your character(s) are already polymorphed, "Revert to Original Form" and shapeshift again.
  3. Success!

Uninstalling
  1. "Revert to Original Form" and save the game.
  2. Deactivate Shapeshifting Origin Tags.

Notes
  • SOT works by checking for "Origin Tags" when shapeshifting. It then re-applies those tags after you transform.
  • Companion dialog is re-enabled by crafty removal of the "GLO_Polymorphed" flag, which is used to block default dialog, reflection dialog, and party decision dialog. This flag is re-enabled when dialog starts (for dialog that looks for this flag for special nodes), and is cleared again when dialog ends.
  • "GLO_Polymorphed" can be manually re-enabled via the settings menu.

Disclaimer
While I have carefully scanned through Larian's scripts and dialog files for potential issues caused by reapplying the Origin tags and removing the "GLO_Polymorphed" flag, and found nothing of apparent consequence, doing so may have unforseen side effects.

Support
If you're feeling generous, an easy way to show support is by tipping me a coffee:

@LaughingLeader Hey there, thank you for the great mod. I'd like to make my Shapeshifting mod compatible with this, but I'm not great with scripting in Divinity's engine. Could you help me when you have the time?

Not sure if you're still paying attention to this, but if so, apparently when transforming a second time with Fane's mask (eg: from human from to elf) I loose the "Fane" tag. It comes back if I revert to original form, so if I actually remember to do that every time it's not an issue, just wasn't sure if you were aware of this "bug".
Yes, I've tried with only this mod running and the same thing happened, so likely not an incompatibility issue.

Would it be possible to make a mod that you could change origin talents? Say I wanted an Elf corpse eater on Fane

Would it be at all possible to mod in the ability to customize a shapeshifted character's appearance so they're not stuck with the defaults?

I have an odd request:

Can you make a mod that allows Fane (or custom undead) to rip the face of Origin characters and get their tags? i.e. if I rip Lohse's face, I'd be tagged as Lohse while using the mask made from her face?

Undead just offer SO many advantages, but Lohse (and others too) just has the absolute best dialogue choices. Since those dialogue choices are derived from their tags, simply being tagged as them should enable that dialogue. And it shouldn't break anything. That is, you won't have their quests, just their tags, so all it'd really allow is talking as them and maybe some interactions.

Plus it'd make some sense. As Fane says, a face is an extremely valuable, if extremely common, commodity. A famous face would be much less common, but much more valuable. If you're playing a character who genuinely doesn't care about your fellow godwoken, you'd never kill them and then just neglect to take their face, right? Who knows when you might need to be them?!

Hi, LaughingLeader! I have RATED UP & Added this mod (and others) to both:

1. " The Multi-Player Definitive D:OS2 Mod List (2018) " :steamhappy:

2. " The Definitive D:OS2 Mod List (2018) " :2017meatball:

Congrats & Thanks for your awesome mods! (sorry for the spam)

Unfortunately, yeah. Larian's take on it is that since you're shapeshifted, other characters don't know you're Fane, and revealing you're Fane would ruin the facade. Or something along those lines. :ppred:

I would use the mask more often but the green effect caused by the fake identity is really ugly :/

So wait because I run with Fane shapeshifted as either an elf or lizard all the time, I am missing out on all his origin and "Fane" stuff? :steamfacepalm:
