Knoebels Amusement Resort – Haunted Mansion (Forward Facing Cars)

Description
My recreation of The Haunted Mansion from Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pa.

The ride is fully functional and stuffed with all of the props of the original ride (Or as best that could be created within the limitation of Planet Coaster) This is my first ride I actually wanted to design so it took m a good 80+ hours to get it just right.

I have created custom audio of the original ride from live recordings (Not the best). You can download all of the audio, used images, and the one video clip for this ride at:

99.9% of the ride is my original designed with the exception of:

“CREEPY ORGAN/PIANO” designed by Snappy Pancakes. If I knew how to link their STEAM page here I would, but it eludes me at the moment. (I’m new at this, and this is my very first workshop item) So I just wanted to give Snappy Pancakes a shout out for a well-designed Pipe Organ that he/she created and I used for my Haunted Mansion.

I’ve decided to use the HUNTSMAN type cars for this version even through the original Haunted Mansion uses the Ghost Train type cars so all of the props and triggers work with a single car. The Ghost Train cars work in sets of three so they were not allowing all of the triggers for the props to work correctly.

(This version of the ride doesn't use the directional rotation of the HUNTSMAN cars and points your car directly forward. You can see most of the props as triggered but you might want to manually look around like you would if you were riding the actual ride!)

This ride is designed to follow the original ride still in operation today. I personally ran this ride for three summers when I worked at Knoebels Amusement Resort, so I was able to add those special little touches only an employee or Haunted Mansion Fan would know. I think i have the track layout as near to perfect as you can get in this game. :)

In certain areas of the ride I had to take creative license in that the props I made are similar, but not exactly what is in the actual ride. But it’s close, if not exaggerated.

I’ve taken a bunch of extra pictures for you to see how the queue lines were designed so when you recreate them you will have some references.

PLEASE NOTE: The ride, as designed, is HORRIBLE when it comes to being a running model in Planet Coaster. Because the Entrance and the Exit gates are so far away, (As in the REAL ride) Planet Coaster peeps exit the ride at the entrance and have to walk all the way over to the exit which constantly holds up the queue line making this ride horrible in actual play. So, to make this an actual working ride, I suggest you move the exit gate close to the entrance to allow for faster loading and unloading of your peeps. I’ve just kept the gates where they are because that’s how the REAL ride is designed. Other then that, lighting bleed from lights in the ride are annoying but I avoided as best I could but it still happens. Not to mention that ALL the lights still look like they are on even fi they are not shining on anything. This doesn’t play nice with some of the gags that needed to be a surprise in total darkness.

I think that’s it! The ride is completely sealed up from sun and moonlight so remember to RIDE IT IN THE DARK for the best experience.

Thanks, and let me know what you think of my creation!

Responding to Black Diamond comment I was working on that...(but very slow going). I am actually in the process (for several years on and off now) recreating Knoebels. This is my all time favorite park. For the first time in 25 years I missed a summer there last year. But I am going back this year! Thank you for making this dark ride. It will save me literally months of work and can't wait to integrate it in my park.

I desperately want to use the Hoax cars but the way Planet Coaster treats them, they are in groupings of three. Even though they look like single cars, they do everything in groups of three and there was no way of spacing them apart long enough so they didn't mess up the props all the time. The first car would go through, the second would get slammed in the door and the third one would not even trigger the prop. Not good. So I had to go with the HUNTSMAN cars. I hated the fact I had to do this, but it was either be REALLY true to life and have none of the props work, or put in a car that was treated as a single car so the props would function as they should. I picked the latter because the props are what makes it so much fun in the first place. I loved running this ride when I worked there!!! It's one the main reason I still wish I worked at Knoebels. If I still have it, (I think I got rid of it thought) I'll look to see if I have the blank ride I had with the HOAX cars.

Oh, I wasn't aware of a way to make the blueprint just a ride. I thought I actually did. I highlighted just the ride and the props and made a blueprint from that. I assumed it was just picking up the ride. Trying to do it the other way just let me either make the ride or the scenery the blueprint Not both together and I wanted them all together in one blueprint. The ride has just under 4000 pieces to it. So I just made it under the limit. But sure, you can use it. I don’t mind.

Why is this a park and not a blueprint, does it have too many parts? Do you mind if I use it or build a park around it? This is one of the best spook rides in Planet Coaster so far. Someone else made a HM as a blueprint but it doesn’t look as good as yours and they used the mouse coaster.

You should have used the Hoax (Pretzel spinning cars locked in forward position) but they run too fast downhill and there's no brakes. The real HM has red Pretzel cars but the non spinning kind, with entry and exit on the left side of the car only. Someone had this on the workshop but deleted it. Thanks for remaking it. I wish someone would make Black Diamond, using the Gold Fever coaster with 2 cars per train. I rode it many times as the Golden Nugget on Hunt's Pier and Dinosaur Beach in Wildwood, NJ. Last time I rode it was June 1998, it's final year of operation in Wildwood.
