Description
🎉 Ad Lucem has been updated for 1.37!
This update brings no new additions to the mod.

New releases!

⚠️Attention Linux users!⚠️
If you are experiencing issues with this mod while playing on Linux, set PARALLAX, REPLACE_WATER_TEXTURE and WAVES in the mod's constants.fxh file to false and FOW_FLAT to true in constants.fxh, to see if it makes any difference. It has been reported that these tweaks fix the hard lockups (see the discussion below).

Ad Lucem, the long-anticipated graphical enhancement mod, makes its way to the Steam Workshop. Not alike any other, this modification features plethora of changes to the game's appearance, making it look better than ever before:
  • New terrain textures
  • Tone & Parallax Mapping
  • Improved shadow blur
  • Improved snow
  • Improved province highlight shader
  • False colors [imgur.com]
  • Fancy Fog of War
  • New water shader

📢This mod was made by skenera. Borsch only maintains the workshop page.

Ad Lucem offers a variety of customization options
which you can tailor to your needs by changing specific values in the mod files. To begin, go to:
steam/steamapps/workshop/content/236850/1469605293
Then open:
gfx/FX/constants.fxh - Open this file using software of your choosing, I recommend Notepad++.
Using the following table, change the listed settings as you please:

Compatibiliy
Due to the structure of Ad Lucem, only few graphical mods are incompatible with it. You will run into no issues with any mods changing the world map graphics files - Beyond Typus looks great with Ad Lucem enabled, however MEIOU is incompatible, unless you use a patch, which you can get here.[forum.paradoxplaza.com]

However, this mod is incompatible with other ones like: Revolutionary Borders Mod, Europa Reborn, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, etc.

Links
Original EU4 Reddit post - Manual Ad Lucem download links for 1.28, 1.29 and 1.30, as well as a standalone province selection effect mod.

Screenshots were taken with the Simple Borders addon, which can be downloaded from the link below: Simple Borders addon

Disclaimer: I do not own this mod. Ad Lucem was uploaded to EU4 Steam Workshop in courtesy of its original creator, skenera.

@Awesomefoxhound Hey, glad you like it! I'm not the author of this mod, I only uploaded Ad Lucem to Steam Workshop with skenera's permission. I don't know whether they are planning anything similiar for EU5.

Hi Borsch, thank you so much for this wonderful map mod. I have enjoyed Ad Lucem since its infancy and I was wondering if there was any plans to migrate the mod to EU5?

@Dragon Have you tried changing the TERRAIN_COLOR_SATURATION value? From my experience it will make the largest difference when it comes to colors.

As for the detail on the provinces - you can try disabling Parallax, but I'm not sure it will make much of a difference when it comes to terrain roughness.

Thanks for the mod! I really love how the game looks with it. It gives me strong nostalgic vibes from the old Sea Dogs games.

I'm trying to tweak some values in the constants file to make the province colors look closer to the vanilla game, but I haven't had much luck. Is that even possible?

Also, is there a way to reduce the amount of texture/detail on the provinces by changing values in that file?

@Sungseon for the moment Ad Lucem works as intended. Since there's no need to update except for the warning in the launcher to be gone, Ad Lucem won't be updated anytime soon, unless it's author, skenera, decides otherwise.

I have temporarily reverted the update, I'm quite surprised by this issue because everything seemed to work normally for me. Please unsubscribe and subscribe and check if Ad Lucem works properly. Sorry for the inconvenience!
