How to use
For every mission you will find the required time and orbs to get an S rank.
And a short walkthrought to get all guns, secrets missions and blue orbs.
As well as some good farming points for red orbs.
You will also have enemy files in the order of encounters.
Also I will inform you at the start of a mission if you need to have a new move.

Before saving
You can save at anytime, if you quit the game before the end of the mission some part won't be saved :
  • Your current location (you will come back at the start of the mission)
  • Weapons and guns
Other stuff will be saved :
  • Red orbs
  • Blue orbs
  • Enemy files
  • Secret missions
  • Time spent

There are 12 Secret Missions in total. It's recommended to do these on your first playthrough, since you'll get Blue Orb fragments for completing the missions, and on harder difficulties some of them will be downright impossible.

For this one, you need to find out the moves of each foe. In certain instances, you'll need to die, and in other circumstances you'll need to use a particular move on an enemy. Check the counter in the "Enemy Files" from the menu to see how many moves you've documented.
This achievement will void you getting The Devil Made Me Do It, so do not go for this one on your Normal difficulty playthrough.

You can hit just about anything and get Red Orbs. Each time you see a big red crystal, smash that until the orbs stop coming.

Mission 1 - 6:00, 400 Orbs

Item - Yelow orb


Blue Orb #1
At the very beginning of the game, before the start of the first mission. It is in a pavilion at the end of a bridge Dante runs under just before he gets to the castle. Jump on the bridge to get the orb.

Up the left stairs in the Main Hall of the castle, you need to wall jump. *

Each Marionette/Bloody mari has their own weapon, they will sometimes throw them or fire them.
They sometimes leap on you. Instant leap, so you just need to evade all other attacks. (Do this with a few of them remaining)
They sometimes use a war cry which will be indicated by a grey sphere around them.

Paragraph 1
- Encounter the enemy.

Paragraph 2
- Watch them fire their shotguns.

Paragraph 3
- Watch them throw their daggers.

- Watch them throw their blades.

- Let them leap onto you. NOTE - You must have Devil Trigger off.

Mission 2 - 7:00, 450 Orbs
Blue Orb #6
At the start of the mission, take the door in front of you. In the room with the Statue of Time, under the table closest to the Statue of Time. Destroy the table to access it. *

Thunderstruck
It seems you can miss the weapon, you get it before entering the Library. Alastor is stuck in a woman statue. You just need to get a Superstylish combo with it.

Shotgun
In the Library where you get the rusty key and collect the Staff of Judgement later. It is on the balcony opposite where you collected the Rusty Key. You'll need to destroy the table and it will be lying on the floor. *


Encounter - Marionette/Bloody Mari

Encounter - Sin Scissors



Sin Scissors
Paragraph 1
- Encounter the enemy.

Paragraph 2
Destroy the enemy.

Paragraph 3
- Try to attack their cape.

Paragraph 4
- Watch them descend.

Paragraph 5
- Use Alastor to hit their scissors to stun them. You'll know if
you did it successfully, as they will hold the scissors only
with one hand instead of two.

Paragraph 6
- After stunning them, use the shotgun from point blank to kill
them with one shot.
When they're stunned, they are usually facing slightly to their
right, which is Dante's left. So it usually helps if, after
stunning them, you walk forward and to your left before firing.
This is also how you pass Secret Mission 1.

Paragraph 7
- Watch them circle you to attack you.
Mission 3 - 3:00, 550 Orbs
Move - Stinger level 1 (250)
Buy this move before starting the mission. Also try to save 4000 orbs for the next move you need on mission 4. (if you can)



Encounter - Sargasso



Blue Orb #7
After you're out of water, get back to the farthest part of the bridge.


Blue Orb #8
After you're out of water, you have to wall jump twice on the door and you will get several red orbs. Then stinger away from the door to make the fragment fall into your possession.


Encounter - Phantom



Secret Mission #1 - Critical Hit
Right After you beat Phantom, you need to run back to the bridge that breaks and jump in the water. Check Paragraph 6 of this enemy.

Secret Mission #2 - Phantom Baby
At the very start of the mission, run back through the door to where you fought Phantom. Use E&I to kill them, stand still surrounded by them and mash the fire button. Get 40+ by spot. DO NOT FORGET to get the blue orb. (Door to get back)

When Phantom chases you through the corridoor, its through the door at the very end. DO NOT FORGET to get the blue orb. (Door to get back)

Encounter - Shadow
Be sure to get the 8 paragraph on NORMAL, it seems you can't get it on other difficulties.


In Mission 4, after you beat Shadow you reach some kind of bedroom. Climbing on the bed drops several red orbs.

Encounter - Sin Scythe
You'll encounter it when leaving/entering the area you beat Shadow.

After you kill Shadow, while in the courtyard, run up and around the balcony into the room where you knock back the statue to reveal a hatch. Drop down the hatch into the room where the shotgun and judgement key / staff was, then into the long corridoor and back into the courtyard where you started. Keep running this route and you should get 250+ orbs per run killing puppets and witches. This is a good early grinding route.

Secret Mission # 4: 3 Beasts
After you have beaten Shadow, run back to the room with the hit-switch and elevator and go down. If you are about to fail, save and reset. Otherwise you won't get it in this playthrought. If needed buy some stuff.

After encountering the black knight, go outside as he showed you. Before going down, use the wall jump to go throught the hole in the ceiling. Then air hike on the other tower (take the star near the left edge) and air hike to the other to get it. Might need several tries.

Secret Mission # 5: One-Eyed Evil
Run to the room where you found the 'Old Key' during Mission 6. The mission might sound difficult but it's not that hard, you only need one to kill the other. Then finish off the last one with your devil trigger. You can save after, if needed reset before dying.


Encounter - Kyklops (secret mission)



Blue Orb #15
In the Secret Mission - One Eyed Demon
Kyklops
Paragraph 1 - Although they appear similar to the Phantom, they are still one of
the low-class evil spirits. However, since they take on earth and
rocks as host elements, they have substantial durability. Contrary
to their appearance, they have superb leaping abilities.

Method - Encounter the enemy.


Paragraph 2 - They can shoot rocks from their mouths, which they form by eating
dirt. Try to avoid standing in front of them whenever possible.

Method - Watch it shoot rocks from its mouth.


Paragraph 3 - Although their armor is made from rocks, it doesn't compare to the
armor of the Phantom. Use the Devil Trigger to bash the monster
along with their armors.

Method - Attack the enemy.
Mission 8 - 3:00, 585 Orbs
Reminder - Blue Orb #13
If you have Air Hike you can backtrack to get it. It's not far from your location. Just take the door outside. (follow the directions as said in mission 4 for this orb)


Grenade Launcher
Collect this from a corpse near some machinery just after lowering the drawbridge, before dropping by the hatch to go downstairs.

You will be able to get the last paragraph here.

Blue Orb #16
Near the trident, on top of the ledge that is framed by two horses. Jump on the horse to jump up to the ledge. Or go to the platform on the opposite and stinger across.

After getting the trident, the orb is in the large pool of water if you did not took it previously. *

After getting throught the metal door, before leaving the area and finishing the mission. Take the fragment in the pool on the right hand side.

Phantom - 2nd encounter

- Wait for it to shoot the fireballs from its back.
Mission 9 - 8:00, 1500 Orbs

Behind the stele you encounter before taking the round stairs, there is a Devil star.


Encounter - Blade - On land


Blue Orb #18
On the left side of the courtyard where you first encounter the blades, follow the upper path, attack the tombstone and it will move revealing the 18th blue orb fragment.


Yellow orb
On the right side of the courtyard where you first encounter the blades, the orb is in plain sight.


Holy water
At the left most area, there is a round building. (bunker like) Go up to have an Holy water.


Yellow orb
Going throught the metal gate, there is one on the upper right area.


Devil star
Going throught the metal gate, there is one on the upper left area.

Ifrit
Going throught the metal gate, you will find this on the top of this area. You will then need to make a Superstylish combo.


Encounter - Griffon - 1st encounter


After you kill Griffon, and use Ifrit to light the torches enter the next area. Proceed untill the door shields and kill the puppets and enter the next area. Keep passing through these two areas for a mixure of lizards and puppets.


Yellow orb
In the last area, this on is on a platform where stand a fetish.


Devil star
In the last area, this is behind a grave (destroy it with Ifrit) in the upper part opposite of the yellow orb. You need to get on top of the platform and then wall jump the wall.


Red pillar
In the last area, this is at the opposite of the devil star, just walk the path.


Green orb
In the last area, destroy the barrels.

After going throught the second emblem door. Take the blue door. Interact with the orange glow to get the Nightmare beta.

At the start of the mission, Save the game.Take the warp back, now be careful, you need to cross the bridge without falling or you won't trigger the mission until your next playthrought. (Unless you reset and load back your save, if you saved before falling) There are 2 ways to get it : hard way (use the wind triggers) easy way (need to have 5 devil trigger runes - kill the devil scythe, wall jump on the left part of the door, and wall jump / air hike and use the air raid at the top of your jump. Glide to the orb.)

There are 2 area in this mission. In the maze be sure to get the blue orb. (On your way in plain sight) After the maze, you will get in room with lava. (it can't harm you) You need to destroy the dragon, kills the foes an proceed. After the 2nd moving platform, take the item with the orange glow to finish the mission.

Appreciate the guide, it's thorough and useful.

Would it be possible to add a reminder for Blue Orb #4 to Mission 8? I've almost never picked up that orb in Mission 1 because you need to go there once you get the trident anyway and completion speed is important for S ranks. :dmc5_red_orb:
