Introduction to the guide
[GUIDE IS UPDATED AS OF 9TH NOVEMBER 2020]
Welcome,
with this guide I want to show (new) players a simple way of building your character(s) to easily sustain premium.
So far the guide is still WIP and only for the early levels of how you start your character to quickly generate silver. I will work on the guide until probably T6 - at that level there is no majorly new content I will have to explain and the system to generate silver still works the same.

The focus of this guide is leveling your combat gear to a certain level so that you can access all necessary zones - leveling your gathering ( + refining) to generate steady money by putting in playtime - farming on your personal island(s) to generate you passive income for 5-30 minutes playtime a day.

If you have problems following the guide just leave a comment and I will try to fix it.

Have fun and I hope you succeed in sustaining your premium just with ingame currency :)
First Character to T2
You just created your first Character.
Now you first do the tutorial, actually read the explanations to avoid further confusion!
This guide starts from when you choose your starter town.

At this point you should somehow know what kind of build you want to play primarily now on this character. If you want a safe bet just go with standard stuff like mage in cloth armor, bow in leather armor or tank in plate armor. Generally I suggest checking the characterbuilder on the official Albion Online website: https://albiononline.com/en/characterbuilder/
Or builds from people on the Killboard: https://albiononline.com/en/killboard
For beginners I personally would not recommend trying to mix their own custom non-standard build if they want to follow the mindset of this guide to quickly generate profits without losing time while releveling new equipment in the first 1-2 weeks. If you want to do that whatsoever, you should just check the Destinyboard (Hotkey: B) for all the different weapon and armor abilities and stats.

Moving on with a build in mind you want to talk to this guy:

and follow the questline Combat Training that he provides you with.

After you have completed this questline, you should now have a royal sigil.
If you don't have them anymore, get a Beginner's Axe; - Skinning Knife; - Pickaxe and - Sickle. You want to gather and refine 6x T2 (birch-) wood, 2x T2 (copper-) ore, 12x T2 (cotton) cloth, 12x T2 (rugged/stiff) leather and any other T2 resource you find in the city until you complete "Trainee Gatherer".
Now you check what biome you are in by the name of the city you're in ( xxx Cross or xxx Outpost ).
According to your biome I suggest you to craft the following tool at the Toolmaker
Mountain: Pickaxe
Forest: Axe
Steppe: Skinning Knife
Highland: Pickaxe
Swamp: Sickle

Also you will craft a Novice's Bag at the Toolmaker (to select it, click the tab with the bag on it after crafting your tool).

You are now full equipped in T2 and ready to continue the journey into the lands of Albion.
T2 to T4
Entering this section you are full equipped in T2 (novice) gear with 1x T2 tool, a mule and 1x Royal Sigil. Your location is <Your biome> Cross.
Find the Repairstation and repair your gear.

You will want to do that every time you enter a city.
If you don't have enough Silver sell some of your materials on the marketplace.

You know want to go to your Worldmap and zoom out until you can't see every single zone anymore with 5 named cities surrounding the city Caerleon. Find the red arrow that indicates where you are and Zoom in to find the path to the highlighted city thats next to your location, example:

1)
2)

On your way to the city is a T3 Zone (like this)
Those contain resources of T2 and T3 and have a layout you can see a clear border in.
Example:

The area closer to where you come from has (almost) only T2 resources and the other one (almost) only T3 resources. You want to stay in the T2 area and gather T2 of the resource you own the T2 tool for, until you unlock "Journeyman xxx" in the gathering tree on the Destinyboard (the blue one going south).

Then you head into the town. There you want to locate the bank in the middle first and store the resources you gathered. Now find the marketplace and sell your Sigil -> buy and equip the T3 armor and weapon you need for your build + a T3 tool of the one you just leveled to T3, trash the T2 tool.

You head back into the T3 zone you just came from and now gather T3 (and T2) resources in the T3 area until you unlock the "Adept xxx" in your gathering tree, this will take a while. Make sure to kill T2+ mobs you find on the way to also level your gear while gathering.
When entering a city you want to sell your resources at the marketplace. We will do refining later on but it requires some work to do it efficient.
If you finish the Adept gathering and have not unlocked the Adept version of your equipment, find a group dungeon in a T4 zone like that or similar:

Kill mobs in the red circle on the 2nd picture, without entering the dungeon but only on top - until you unlock the Adept version of your equipment.
(The dungeon entrance has the same shiny lights as any zone entrance.)

Once you have unlocked T4 gathering and equipment, head back to the marketplace in your town and buy the armor and weapon you want to use in your build in T4 with enchantment level 1 (green glow around it like this)

The enchantment level 1 is pretty common for T4 and therefor not too expensive, it gives you a power boost of a whole Tier, so even though you can only wear T4 gear you have the power of T5.

You also want a T4 of the tool you level and the gathering gear parts you unlocked with gathering T4 (the gathering gear does not really profit from enchantment levels).
If you didn't do it already now is the time to upgrade your bag and mount (for mount I suggest the T4 Stag). What Tier of Bag and Mount you can use is determined by the "Adventurer" Line on the Destinyboard (the one going straight up).
Further you want to buy some Goose Pie and Wheat Soup (~10 of each); Goose Pie to be active while gathering with your gathering gear and Wheat Soup to be active while killing mobs in your combat gear.

When you bought your first month of premium (I recommend doing this early, with real money but you can also grind silver if you want) and have accumulated ~300k silver you want to buy a personal island and upgrade it to lvl3. Best is that you have found a guild by then and know what city they are playing from since your island is locked to the city you buy it in - costs a little to move everything to another city.
Travel to your island and build (H) 2 farms on the brown spots you see. Then go to the vendor on your island and buy 18 carrot seeds, plant them on the farm plots. You will have the option of watering your carrots, if you water them you will get 2 seeds back per carrot patch - so you want to water half of your carrots (1 farm plot). That way you dont have to rebuy carrot seeds and have a steady income of carrots you can sell. I also suggest you to get an ox for your daily farming.
T4 to T6
At this point you should be equipped with T4.1 (.x = enchantment level) Armor and Weapon and have a T4 tool and T4 gathering gear for the T4 tool.

As you make money you want to upgrade the level of your personal island to maximize the farm plots you can use.
When you unlock new farm plots build a farm on it and place more carrots, keep the amount of carrots you water at 50%.

Quick general explanation to zones:
When looking at maps you will notice different colored squares like this one

Those have the following meaning for the zone:
  • Blue:No player can attack you and when you drop to 0hp you onle get knocked down and lose ~10% durability and ~10% of items without durability. Dont click "Die"
  • Yellow: Players can "flag" for PvP, you have a hostile counter at your minimap. Flagged players can attack any other player but lose reputation for it and you also only get knocked down like in blue zones.
  • Red: Players can flag for PvP, if you get killed by a mob you get knocked out (flagged players can execute you) - if you get killed by a player you die and anyone can loot your items. Flagging and killing players will reduce your reputation.
  • Black: Everyone is flagged for PvP and there is no hostile counter, same loot rules as in red zones. You don't gain or lose reputation here.
(Too much negative reputation gets you locked out of Blue, Yellow and Red zones.)

Going forward where we left off:
You want to gather and kill mobs until you unlock T6. You can still wear your T4.1 combat gear as it is easy to replace if you die. You will want to upgrade your gathering gear and tool as soon as you unlock the next Tier.
Also you should change your gathering style when in PvP zones (mainly red or black zones):
When you demount you will notice that your mount stays there and has a circle around it. As long as you're in the circle you can walk to your mount and mount very fast to escape PKs. Knowing this you will want to mount and run directly to every resource you want to gather on your mount as long as there are any hostile players in your zone or you're in a black zone - and if you see a red name at the side of your screen you want to mount and escape.

When you have unlocked at least T6 you should move your gathering activities to the black zones.
You will probably die a couple times in the beginning, just make sure to not take stuff with you that you cannot afford to lose (as always in Albion)!
From here on out you should have learned enough about Albion to continue on your own without any major problems. If you have questions check out the /help channel ingame.
And of course don't forget to have fun, it's still a game!
