Description
Description
Player can view more specific food condition. With the new trait player can additionally find out exact time to stale and rotten states with seconds precision. Trait costs 2 points as a generic human being is usually able to distinguish food state without intensive training.
Chefs and Burger flippers can automatically see additional info, as well as players which take Cook and Nutritionist traits (both cost more than a separate trait).
Compatible with versions 38.30, 40.43, 41.40, 41.43.
Additional configuration is possible: you can decide to see food status without a trait (for existing games) or disable seconds in tooltip if you don't like them ticking away so fast, see variables in 'tooltip.lua' for configuration. No in-game menus currently, feel free to add them if you need them or create patches and contact me.

How to Use
Hover the cursor over food in inventory or container. With the new trait 'Eye to food' tooltip shows a bar and time left to 'stale' and 'rotten' states with seconds precision. Otherwise, only rough estimation will be seen as a status, but still more detailed than in vanilla Zomboid.
Non-perishable food has 'No expiration date' message instead to help everyone distinguish it in-game without Wiki pages.

Food has 5 states (without trait) which are color-coded further for more convenience:
  • very fresh
  • fresh
  • okay
  • starting to rot
  • rotten (basically the in-game state)
States are rough estimates (consider them based on 'Best Before' date on the product) while colors are more like smelling actual food, and dates and smells can indicate different things. Use their combitation for better effect or spend 2 points for the new trait.

Translations are mostly made by users. If you'd like to translate this mod, send your translation file to me and I will add it with credits in-place.

Hey man, I'm trying make new mod. But documentation and receferences are sucks... Can you help me? I trying study lua scripts from vanilla. Your modd seams be a good reference. Can you show the source code in github? thanks

Well OK then, thank you, I thought maybe that was something buggy here on my side (this happens), because it should've already been merged with Nutritionist. I left the bare trait itself for those who don't want to spend 4 points on the calories and want only freshness info, like a discount of sorts.

If sometime in the future developers decide to add this functionality to Nutritionist trait in the base game, that would be awesome for all of us, however I doubt that.

Nutritionist *trait* works as intended: shows a bar and advanced info, I have checked it fast on current stable build.
There is one caveat: if you do not select the trait itself but get it via Fitness Instructor profession, that will not work as this is not considered a 'proper trait' by the game.
I did include benefits for some professions that are closely related to food, you can see that in description: «Chefs and Burger flippers can automatically see additional info», however Fitness Instructor is not included.

Could you please clarify whether you have issues with the trait itself (which means a bug) or you took the Fitness Instructor profession? In the latter case that's by design, which I may change if people are unhappy and feel strongly that a typical instructor in real life really has cooking skills on par with a cook or a fast food employee.

I like the mod, but I feel like the nutritionist perk should have this feature by default? Is there a way to make it merge with that perk?

Talking about injections, I can confirm that it's not very difficult. Simple example is in my little mod "Show Clothes Material" (there is a kind of compatibility with your mod). Actually there is double injection but I know that your are good programmer becasue I had read your code. Respect! :)
