I found the easiest way to learn neutron surfing (while getting paid) was to grab colonia missions and head out there and back. You can also bookmark your stops, especially places handy for refuel, which makes the commute (should you want to do it again) fairly pedestrian. With the introduction of AFMU, neutron surfing became safer than planetfall. Now if singularities were boostable... that would be scary sh*t...
Just ride the wave man... surf, don't swim.
1. Have orbital Lines on if there's only a small section of the jet cone that isn't blocked by the exclusion zone it's not worth it as these stars generally pose a large risk for very small reward (25-50% jump boost) consider Jumponium instead.
2. if you manage break through without a fsd supercharge you can save some time by getting clear of the cone and exiting your Supercruise to spin faster then using the opposing cone instead of doing a full loop around the star.(Better for large ships like the anaconda that turn slowly in SCruise)
3.Always Carry AFMUs when going outside the bubble using this method, they take no weight and are extremely useful!
That's it, I'm currently 30KLy away from sol and they will speed up any trip! This is something any pilot should learn and master especially with upcoming colonization of the Coal Sack Nebula traders without Fleet Carriers will greatly cut down travel time Good luck CMDRS o7
If I were you I wouldn't take the risk, and I'd consider the extra jumps.
The fast pulsar ones, if the yellow zone is small, are just the same as yer regular neutron.
And, if you've not seen it yet, check this out - it's a pretty nifty plotter for neutron highway paths. Use at your own risk. https://www.spansh.co.uk/plotter
The plotter is fed off of data in EDSM/EDDN - so, if possible you should consider running an update client such as EDDiscovery or ED: Market Connector (I recently switched to EDDiscovery - it offers quite a few more features but serves a very similar purpose as EDMC)
As always, fly safe CMDRs! o7
If you're going to go on an extended neutron highway trip, bring an Auto Field Repair Unit, because some neutrons are high energy enough that you can receive some FSD damage from them. Once you drop below 80% FSD module health, you'll have your FSD basically reboot during every boost - below 70% and there is a chance that it will also kick you out of supercruise and into normal space - this can be deadly if you're also inside the jet cone and unable to get free.
If you do not bring an Auto Repair Unit, and do receive FSD damage (you'll hear "Hull Breach Attack" and "Hazardous Substance Detected" and your FSD module health will drop) and FSD module health drops below 80 or less, reconsider the remainder of your neutron highway plan. You don't wanna get stuck in those jet cones and lose all your exploration data and whatever else you might have going on.
