Description
The Berlin Brandenburg Gate is a neo-classical arch that was completed in 1791 at the request of Prussian king Frederick William II after he helped to put down the Batavian Revolution in Holland. The gate represented a door to the west, specifically to Brandenburg an der Havel, which was the capital of Prussia. Order didn't last long though, and when Napoleon defeated the Prussians in 1806, he removed the "Quadriga" sculpture from the top and took it to Paris! The sculpture was restored to Berlin after Napoleon's defeat in 1814. In the 20th century, the gate became an iconic representation not only for the city of Berlin itself, but for the entire Cold War, as it sat in the "No-man's-land" that divided East and West for almost 30 years. After the fall of The Wall in 1989, Brandenburger Tor now serves its original purpose perhaps better than ever before; to symbolize Peace. It looks as it does today thanks to a lengthy restoration in 2002.

This model is a rework of CO's original Brandenburg Gate model. I did go so far as to PM a dev and ask if it was ok that I mod this asset, and they didn't think it would be a problem since there are already dozens of re-uploads on the workshop. My main intention was to scale the model up to 1:1, but this project developed into a complete make-over. This building is, after all, one of my favorites!

Differences to the mesh:
  • Model scaled up from 0.7:1 to 1:1
  • 90% new diffuse textures created to reflect the Gate as it stands in 2017
  • Mars and Minerva sculptures added in side niches w custom normal maps
  • Updated diffuse & normal maps for achitectural detailing and relief sculptures
  • New textures and new home-made normal-mapped flutes for all columns
  • Smaller columns shading updated from flat to smooth
  • Many improvements to the model geometry, particularly in the side houses and base
  • Added doors and windows with new diffuse, spec, & illumination maps to side houses
  • Interior walls of central gate flattened and painted to reflect modern restoration
  • New custom LOD model and maps to match new main model

Differences to the asset:
  • External props (benches, flowerpots, trashcan, gazebo, fountains) removed
  • Lighting rework: floodlights repositioned, pavement lights added, streetlamps removed
  • Gather & door markers added & adjusted
  • Plot size: 9x5 (was 8x6)

TRIS: 11,993
Maps: diffuse, normal, spec, illumination (1024x1024)
LOD tris: 353
LOD maps: diffuse, normal (256x256)

yeah, it's incredible that CO hasn't found out that this game is alive in 70% by workshop and didn't create any solution, let's say 'create collection from subscribed assets' (<- actually that could be pretty easy, find every assets subscribed (workshop folder inside steamapps or wherever it is), find their steam pages (from files too) and the rest will do some coding :))

Yeah I've avoided doing that because the thought of manually clicking through multiple pages to add 1500 assets to a collection is just way too much effort. The process of sharing complex savegames needs to be optimized and there should be a simple 1-click solution to create the collection

@AmiPolieiFunk have you tried to make collections out of assets you use? I mean, collection with assets used in given savegame, it would work almost like these new buttons from CO. I did the same to myself, but I have different collections for mods, different for european assets, american assets etc. It takes long time to add every subscribed asset to the collection, and sort them optionally, but worth it. After the job done, unsubscribe from all used assets, and every next asset you wanna use, put in collection :) Btw awesome asset, waiting for more <3

thx all for the kind words. @dan.ta I've considered trying to share the savegame, but previously it has been way too complicated (i'm using ~80 mods and ~1500 assets). CO made these new buttons to "sub-all" and "unsub-all" but from what I've heard they're buggy and not quite working yet.
