[WotC] RW Realistic Flight Mode

In 1 collection by krumiro
Realistic War... or the "Mine Yours" Collection... ;)
25 items
Description
;My Engineers, Soldiers and Scientists are not inexplicably pausing Constructions, Trainings and Researches during flight (to enjoy the view with a drink??), my Ship is not absurdly incapable of changing destination mid-flight (especially usefully when the weather forecast predicts cloudy with slight chance of UFOs) and my Facilities can realistically be accessed during flight, yours?

;Donations: paypal.me/krumiro

;WORK DURING FLIGHT
;Something that you probably never realised before is this that Researches, Constructions, Trainings, etc., do not advance at all while traveling!! Geoscape's time shows 3 hours left during take off.. 3 hours left when you landed... this is especially obvious if you show Events in hours remaining instead of days remaining with my other Mini-Mod RWBetterUpcomingEventsSideList. I couldn't stand the absurdity of the fact that in standard XCom2 the crew isn't working while flying... I literally couldn't continue my campaign until I modded this nonsense out of existence... ;)

;CHANGE COURSE OR ACCESS FACILITIES DURING FLIGHT
;I'm sure I'm not the only one having started with a misclick a day long flight around the globe and having to watch the Avenger go through it like an idiot... Now simply click on a new destination on the map to change course while traveling or simply press Esc to access and manage the Avenger Facilities in the middle of a flightif you forgot to put those engineers to work before take off... ;)

;UPCOMING EVENTS LIST SHOWN DURING FLIGHT
;This RWRealisticFlightMode and RWBetterUpcomingEventsSideList are perfect brothers. When both are active then the Events Side List will not be hidden while traveling so that you can literally see your Events progressing in hours even when Central Bradford is at the wheel... ;)

;CLASS OVERRIDES:
;Not a single one... ;)

;CLASS SUBSTITUTIONS:
;´HQPRES.StrategyMap2D (UIStrategyMap), not Overridden, but simply substituted inside of ´HQPRES

;INCOMPATIBILITY LIST
;"[WotC] Hours instead of Days"
;Please help me to update this list

DONATIONS
Are you so full of gratitude for this Mini-Mod that you will just explode if you don't offer me a beer?
Need me to add an option you like?
Want to help to keep this mod “surviving” XCom updates?
You’d like me to make it compatible with your favourite Mod?
Seen a bug and want to help me find the time to squash it?
XCom Modding is fun but doesn't pay the rent and free time is limited… Donations are NOT mandatory but if you want to "motivate" me to escalate this mod maintenance (or your suggested idea) higher on my free-time priority list… here is the Paypal link and I'll have a beer (or maybe lunch) in your honour. ;)

DETECT CLASS OVERRIDES CONFLICTS BETWEEN MODS
Simply make a quick Harddrive Search for “+ModClassOverrides=(BaseGameClass=“
The results will show all the XComEngine.ini files of Mods that make Overrides. Check if any of those files have the same Class name after the “=“ and kindly ask the Modders to try to avoid that override or cooperate with each other. When 2 mods override the same class the game gets HORRIBLY VERY SLOW and only 1 of the 2 Mods works (randomly).

BIRTH OF “REALISTIC WAR” COLLECTION
(ALSO KNOWN AS THE “MINE YOURS” COLLECTION ;) )
Long story short: One Megamod that rules them all… “Mutilated” into tiny little self-functioning Mini-mods ;)
Short story long: I always wanted to publish my millionaire Smartphone App super-idea but totally forgot how to program from my first University years. I tried to relearn with Youtube channels and online Tutorials but got bored to death after a week. One day, playing my favorite game ever (and the only one I have the luxury to have time to play) I asked the author of my favourite Mod to please apply a tiny little idea on his Mod for me. No answer… I got struck by the brilliant idea: relearn programming by making your only stress-release game more fun and the way I wished it to be!!! Modding was love at first sight. Not only I didn’t get bored relearning to program from zero, but I actually have became so enthusiast and obsessed by the constant intellectual challenge that it now keeps me literally hypnotised for hours, days, weeks, months… I now have 10 times more fun by reprogramming my only game than playing it! How crazy! Solving programming puzzles turned out to be for me much more fun than solving this strategy-game puzzles themselves! My first XCOM Modification starting from 0 took ages… literally weeks: to interpret the code of other Mods achieving a similar result and to understand what I needed to change (no need of reinventing the wheel, right?), to understand that it wasn’t enough to naively just “paste/edit” text inside someone else’s Mod files but that I also had to “rebuild the solution” with a “solution builder”, to discover Modbuddy, to find a way to run XCOM Development Kit on a Mac, to find a way to shrink it from 60GB to 2GB ‘cause I had only 8GB available (deleting the graphic/sound content), etc… But the gratification and earned experience was way worth it once finished. Then each next Modification, like a university exercise, once solved made me realise that I learned 1 or 2 new important tricks that allowed me to program the next one. An so on, modification after the next I completely changed XCom exactly the way I always wanted it with a SINGLE HUGE MEGAMOD that puts its hands everywhere in the game. Now, I can’t give you the Megamod because it has way too many modifications at once for another single person to have the chance to like them all (and God knows which other Mods it isn’t compatible with). Now I’m simply multitasking between making additional modifications (the hardest ones, now that I have the skill) and simultaneously “mutilating” the Megamod into tiny little self-functioning mods (dozens and dozens of them!!) to share with you guys… but mainly because the mutilation process is an additional superfun and challenging programming exercise (even making these stupid Mod Preview Images. Until yesterday I didn’t know how give a transparent background to pasted images) that pushes my skills every day one step closer to my future millionaire supersuccessful Smartphone App. Wish me luck! ;)

it may be an incompatibility with another mod, but when the Avatar project level increases time continues to run and I've had over 7 days worth of events trigger without being able to react. Instead they all trigger at the end.

and it's incompatible with "force level display"

so I fixed my computer issues, Do you mind if I look/poke into your mod source code & try & figure out a way to make those mods compatible ? @krumiro

I honestly was never able to tell if this worked. I think at most I saw the clock change by an hour (I had the rw hours not days sort of mod on), but that was even flying 4-5 thousand kilometers (taking into account time zones). I also didn't notice if I was really able to switch destinations mid flight.

Can anyone confirm this definitely genuinely works? (and does it conflict with 'More Covert Actions'? Because "upcoming events" or whatever that other 'hours not days' mod DOES and Geoscape goes down to less than 10 fps)

haha, understood. Wish I could help you on that front, but unfortunately my motherboard is dead and I'm not even sure I can buy replacements parts. so this is looking grim ;)
Thanks for the replies though. Much Appreciated.

Unfortunately I have enough free time only to create new / debug existing modifications (and prepare many other old private Mini-Mods for public release) which I wish/need to personally use in my own beloved 15min/day Campaign... BUT... if enough of you "votes" for it (I'm not going to say the word but it ends with "-onation"... and rhymes with motivation...;) ) I could push it higher in my daily priorities list... ;)

No sorry, I didn't spend time in programming that feature because I personally don't need it (I consider the "unknown availability time" of each mission / scanning site a realistic and exciting risk as part of the game...)

Alright thank you.
Does your other mod "RW Better Upcoming Events Side list" show expiring time of missions in hours ?
that's the main thing I'm interested about, I wanna be able to wait for that few hours soldier before beginning a mission for example...

Thanks again.

Unfortunately it is incompatible with the "[WotC] Hours instead of Days" Mod (because my "RW Realistic Flight Mode" Mini-Mod substitutes the UIStrategyMap Class with my own version which is identical to the original except for the fact of disabling the pause/resume commands during takeoff/landing, commands that are exclusively inside of that Class and for which I have found so far no other way to disable)...

...if it may serve as meagre consolation, my other Mini-Mod "RW Better Upcoming Events Side-List" implements some of the functionalities of "[WotC] Hours instead of Days"... ;)
