Description
Netherlands Flanders and the Ruhr area 6k

--------------------- Discription got changed, here is why that happened ------------------

So yeah. This mod have been up for a while. It was one of my earlier mods, and at that point i didn't have a backup system set up yet. I was asked recently to fix a bug in this mod that makes it unplayble for people on a MAC or Lunix. When i was going in my files to fix the problem, i found out the files for this mod were missing. I had to subscribe to my own mod and update it with the files i got from steam. Then i updated it, so the mod should be fixed now. But when i update a mod the description disappears. And apparently next to me failing to make backups of this mod, i also forgot to backup the discription text. I have no clue what was in it, so here comes a new discription for an old mod!

---------------------- Discription --------------------------

Just like a few other maps makes focused on the Netherlands, this mod offers a map including all of the Netherlands, most of Flanders and the border region of Germany, including some of the main cities in the Ruhr area.

What makes this one stand out from the rest? A big focus in making this map was creating navigatable rivers and channels. pretty much every body of water is connected to each other and navigatable. Personally i really didn't like the "visable borders" that some of the Nehterlands maps have on the workshop, so i didn't include that in my map.

The map features a huge amount of cities. i believe it was something crazy like 150 or something.

This is a very large map. you will need to turn "experimental mapsizes" to "true" in the settings file of the game, or else it won't load.

This mod contains 2 maps. this is due to 1 of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands being raised from the sea in the middle of the 20th century. Both maps include the province, but the standard map doesn't have any cities in that province, so you can build it up yourself with the "plop builings" mod. The other version, which has "2000" behind the name of the map, does have the cities palced in the province, and let's you start in the year 2000.

Greetings, i just got the game a few days now, and im hooked, especialy for the Mod Parts
, but to get it all working smooth and nicely, my question is, wich mod's are needed to have a compleet moded game with all the small little things that are needed, i mean, what MUST you have as basic mods so you can play with them all, is there a Compleet Mod Pack..?

Can someone help me on this..? i worked at the Dutch Railroads for 16 Year's here in Holland, the City Of Maastricht, im kinda hooked on trains lol, so i want the Full dutch Mod first, once i got the Base Mods that are needed to make it all run smooth, Help is apreciated, because i dont know where to look, so many mods in there, but for them to work, you need a base setup so you can run them all out there, and there are Plenty LOVE IT !!

so let me know send me a message... especially for the Dutch Railroads part

Thanks for your Time :)

Last you want Gimp. Gimp is an opensource photoshop-like program that will allow you to change the Geotiff file to a .png 16bit grayscale file that you need for this game. It can also be used to change the size of the file, blur some of the terrain so you don't end up with massive height differences, and moddify the terrain manually (for example for adding rivers.)

For merging and resizing your heightmaps into your map: Microdem. this opensource program can do a lot of stuff. I find it key to making detailed maps. It is a hard to learn program though, and although i have used it for a few of my more recent mods, i still can't quite fully understand how it all works. You use this program to merge the heightmaps, change it's size and export it as a grayscale Geotiff file. it also has the option to change certain heightranges in the heightmap to other heights. This might be the key to dealing with land under the sea. You can also use the option that finds sea and lake/river areas, and sets those areas to the lowest level on the map.

If you still want to give it a try to make a map yourself, here are some sources i use:

For heightmaps: http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html This site pretty much has all of the world available as heightmaps. the files are hard to modify though, as they have a strange file type.

For a quick look which of the downloaded heightmaps you need: VTBuilder. This open source program allows you to open the heightmap files to have a quick overview of them, so you an decide which to use for your maps.

@TheCinC this map isn't of my own creations. One of the makers of other Netherlands maps made this. He didn't mind me using it at all, and i did make some major changes to the map. I am fine with you using this one, as i can see this mod has its own flaws. Making a map for the Netherlands yourself is terrible work indeed with all of the land below sea level.

I am creating a modified version of the 1850's map, due to being completely unable to create a height map from scratch. I think the Dutch landscape completely trips up the Map Creator on https://www.transportfevermods.com/en/mapcreator.html as a lot of land is below sealevel. Is this height map your work and if so, can you tell me how you created it? As it seems to be shared with another map in the Workshop and I am not sure who to credit/ask for advice. And would you have any objection if I upload my version with credit to you for basing it on your version?

@tsilaicosneknurd I thought i fixed that problem in all my mods, but i forgot this one I guess. anyway, it should be fixed now.
tsilaicosneknurd Nov 18, 2018 @ 9:09am
ok, I maybe did not explain clearly what I mean. the file "Mod.lua" (whit upper case M) exists, but not "mod.lua" (lower case M). Which may work on winddows, because by default a case insensitive filesystem is used, but does not work on Linux or Mac (case sensitive filesystems by default). I personally fixed it just by renaming the file.
By the way it is a great map.. good work.

@tsilaicosneknurd I checked it on my own computer, and the file DOES exist. Your problem is probebly a personal error on your computer caused when you downloaded it. as you can see in the comments there certainly are people able to play this mod.
