Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials DLC - Achievement guide & tips
By ThePugHybrid
In this guide I will go over what you have to do for each of the Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials DLC achievements and some tips and useful information for doing them (includes screenshots). Alot of these achievements are frustrating but keep trying and you will get them.

Void Star
-Void Star:
"Complete all Normal and Expert challenges with a 3-Stars rating."

Getting a 3-star rating in all normal and expert challenges will be quite time consuming and for some frustrating. Especially when the game does a half-arsed job at explaining what to do to get a 3-star rating on some challenges.

For a 3-star rating in a challenge you must achieve 30,000 or more points. To unlock expert challenges for some of the challenges, you must at least achieve a 2-star rating or above in the normal version of that challenge (20,000 points is a 2-star rating).

The challenges are listed below:

Stealth:
  • Mystery Foe [+expert]
  • Burglar [+expert]
Action:
  • Back Alley Brawl [+expert]
  • Assassin's Run
  • Oil Drop
Puzzle:
  • Bend Time Massacre
  • Kill Chain
Mobility:
  • Bonfires [+expert]
  • Train Runner [+expert]
  • Kill Cascade [+expert]

In total there are 10 challenges (16 including expert versions) where you will need to achieve a 3-star rating.

For all 3 stars in some challenges, you have to find alternate ways of maxing your points. For example, it's never mentioned in the tutorial of Burglar that each of the 6 eggs adds a multiplier to the score, and so the only way to get 30,000 points is collecting the 6 eggs first and then picking up coins and stuff. Same with Kill Cascade, the challenge suggests you to kill all enemies by showing the jump's difficulty with a coloured beacon, but skipping some of them to make the highest jumps is the only way to max points.
Natural Talent
-Natural Talent:
"Finish Mystery Foe without using any active supernatural powers."

For this achievement you must finish the "Mystery Foe" challenge (normal or expert difficulty) without using any supernatural powers. (Blink, Bend Time, Dark Vision or Possession). Too my knowledge Agility will not effect this achievement as it is an "Enhancement".

This is not particularly challenging, just keep out of sight and collect all the clues to find out your target. As this achievement doesn't matter on score you can take as long as you want attempting this. It may take a couple of attempts but this achievement is one of the easier ones in the DLC.

There is a method, where you kill the first guard when you leave the starting room, over and over until he is the target. I went on to try this method 15 times and not once was the guard my target, but I read somewhere that someone did it 10 times and 2/10 times he was the target so this method is luck based. User "OctoberFox" has a alternate method in the guide comments below.
By My Hand Alone
-By My Hand Alone:
"Get to Wave 13 in Back Alley Brawl killing all combatants personally."

This achievement can be a pain. This is because different enemies will spawn which aren't only hostile to you, but also to one another as well (e.g. watch guards and weepers). If these hostile factions kill one another the achievement will not pop upon completing the 12th wave.

Below is a round summary, from the Dishonored Wiki:

Round 1 : 3 kills
Round 2 : 6 kills
Round 3 : 9 kills + Golden Merchant = 10
Round 4 : 14 kills
Round 5 : 18 kills
Round 6 : 22 kills + Golden Merchant = 23
Round 7 : 27 kills
Round 8 : 31 kills
Round 9 : 36 kills + Golden Merchant = 37
Round 10 : 42 kills
Round 11 : 47 kills
Round 12 : 52 kills + Golden Merchant = 53

At the end of wave 12, you will want 53 kills overall or the achievement won't pop. This achievement will take time unless you get lucky but isn't too bad once you get the hang of things. It took me quite a few attempts, but keep at it.

The achievement should pop after Daud spawns and freezes time.
Assassin Vs. Machine
-Assassin Vs. Machine:
"Complete Train Runner before the train arrives at the station."

This achievement is another relatively easy achievement when compared to the rest of them in the DLC. You have to get to the station as quick as possible, before the train stops. The best way to do this is to get on top of the train about half way through the map and when it slows at the station, run to the finish line as fast as possible.

Personally, I think the best method is to run to the gate below, as fast as possible, before the train does past it and wait on-top facing the train. Then blink on top of the train and wait for it to enter the station where you can Blink off on top of the station roof in-front of you and make your way to the finish line as fast as possible.

<The gate from which to jump onto the train from.

<Blink off the train up here and quickly make your way to the exit before is completely stops.

If your still struggling, make sure to check YouTube for plenty of useful video guides.
Rare Collector
-Rare Collector:
"Find all of the collectable figurines in Burglar on Expert."

For this achievement, you must first get 2 or 3 stars on "Burglar" Normal to unlock the expert version as the collectable figurines only show up on Expert. There are 16 of these figurines throughout the challenge. I would recommend killing all the guards on the map to make this easier so you don't have to sneak around them.

A list of the figurines on each floor:
  • Ground floor: 5 figurines
  • First floor: 4 figurines
  • Second floor: 1 figurine
  • Third floor: 6 figurines

If you don't wish to search for all the figurines check Steam for guides, and YouTube.
Long Way Down
-Long Way Down:
"Perform a drop assassination of at least 150 meters in the Kill Cascade challenge"

For this achievement, you have to perform a drop assassination from over 150 meters, in the challenge kill cascade. The method below is the best way to get the achievement. You may want to look at a YouTube video guide if the below screenshots aren't helping.

<Firstly, make your way to the tall boy, marked with a yellow beam.

<From his platform Blink onto this rocky area.

< From the end of the rocky area, there are these two buildings, Blink to the ledge shown.

<Climb up and blink to the other wall as shown. This is where you will do the drop assassination from.

<You now want to Agility/Blink jump to the last target, Jessamine Kaldwin and assassinate without hitting anything on the way down. (Red beam)
Headhunter
-Headhunter:
"Complete Assassin's Run with 100% accuracy using only head shots."

This achievement can be quite time consuming and a pain to get. For this, you have to complete the "Assassin's Run" challenge, without missing one shot, and all the bolts hitting the enemies head. This is difficult because of the unpredictable AI. Don't worry about time for this achievement, take as long as you need.

To know if your kill counted as a headshot, on the left side of the screen is the point meter, where when you achieve a head shot, will pop up saying headshot. It's worth trying to keep an eye on this if possible.

The third room is one of the worst rooms as the weepers will vomit, making them a moving target as their heads are moving around, so try and get them between them throwing up.

The enemies will also often spawn in different postions each time so there is no way of telling where they will be each time you play this challenge.

Note: Civilians do not count towards the achievement, spare them.

Below is a list of all the enemies in each room:
  • Room 1: 3 Whalers, 1 Civilian.
  • Room 2: 3 Whalers, 1 Civilian.
  • Room 3: 5 Weepers, 1 Civilian.
  • Room 4: 2 Whalers, 1 Civilian.
  • Room 5: 2 Whalers, 1 Civilian.
  • Room 6: 2 Whalers. (The Whaler on the staircase will stay still if you wait long enough).
  • Room 7: 3 Whalers.
  • Total: 20 enemies and 5 civilians.

NEW INFORMATION:
New information has recently been brought to my attention that makes this achievement easier. You do not need to kill all 20 enemies for this achievement. There is a way to exit out of bounds after 17/20 of the enemies have been killed.

Doing so with 100% accuracy and all headshots will unlock the achievement.
Daredevil
-Daredevil:
"In Bonfires, perform all the special combination jumps in 1 round."

This achievement is extremely frustrating. The achievement is "lucky run" based and there is not much skill involved. There are 6 tricky jumps in the challenge, and all must be performed in ONE round. This challenge is timed which is one of the reasons as to why it is so frustrating.

This achievement is almost impossible to explain with words so it's best to watch a video guide on YouTube. I personally recommend Kamera's video guide for this as it shows all 6 tricky jumps.

Time Management
-Time Management:
"Finish Chain Kill or Bend Time Massacre without failing any wave, including bonuses."

This achievement is also a pain. This is the only Dishonored achievement I do not have, at the time of making this guide, so I won't comment much.

For this achievement you must complete either, "Bend Time Massacre" or "Kill Chain" without failing a single wave, including the bonus waves. If you do it is best to restart the challenge and try again. There are video guides on YouTube, although these aren't always very useful as the bonus waves change per playthrough (there are 2 set bonus waves after each normal wave, which it can either be one or the other - the game chooses from two set bonus waves).

This challenge includes, 6 normal waves and 6 bonus waves after successfully completing the normal wave.

Note: I completed "Kill Chain" without failing any waves including bonus waves and didn't get the achievement, some other players have also experienced this problem.
Also, other players have said they got this achievement even though they failed one round on "Bend Time Massacre".
Mrs. Pilsen's Remorse
-Mrs. Pilsen's Remorse:
"Find Emily's doll hidden in each of the 10 challenges."

As I already have this achievement, I cannot screenshot all 10 dolls as they do not respawn. Instead you will have to use another Steam guide or YouTube video.

@JustAPotato I just did it finally and noticed that while he does indeed stop if you stay by the first window, it isn't consistent which is unfortunate. I actually ended up getting it normally by compensating slightly above and to the right of my shot with 2X zoom. But if he doesn't stop respawning after like 4 or 5 attempts then it's best just to try take the shot and otherwise restart.

For head hunter, the dude on the stairs is really ruining it for me. I've waited up to five minutes, but he just refuses to stop. :(

I agree. I found Daredevil and Time Management to be the most frustrating.

The problem with Daredevil is that 90% of the time I fail even trying to make the first jump.
My only other level specific achievements I need for that DLC are By My Hand Alone and Burglar Expert, none of the others are as annoying as Daredevil.

Good to know!

I tried the killing of the guard in Mystery Foe and got the guard on my 5th try!

You mentioned that killing the guard not working for you; I don't think the guards are ever the target. I wasn't looking for a spot in your guide, I only wanted to help, but I appreciate the mention and the update.

I never end support for my guides and will always continue to update them. That said this achievement is considerably easy (especially when compared to others in this DLC) so although I will not update the actual guide contents I will make a note of this comment within the guide.
OctoberFox Nov 27, 2023 @ 1:48am
I don't know if you're still updating this but it's not the guard (Natural Talent) it's the people in the first room. You can go to the first door to the left that opens to two people, a man and a woman, usually by a fireplace. On the table to the left in that room a clue can spawn. Since one is wearing red and one is wearing blue, and one has a mask and the other has no head gear, the first clue can help make an educated guess (you need at least one clue for three stars). Pick your target and stealth kill, pulling back and carrying the corpse as you do to keep from being detected. This should nail a bunch of bonuses and a high score.

On expert it's actually easier as the clues can spawn on the first guard or either possible targets instead of that one table. Same as before, get at least one clue and your kill and you get three stars. It can take a lot of tries (I think mine popped here on PC after about 20) but each try was under 20 seconds.

I've done this on PS3 and PC.

I DID IT, I finally did it.......it was horrible. But the guide helped so much! To everyone attempting this DLC and is struggling, I know you're probably at your lowpoint now...but don't give up. KEEP TRYING and you'll eventually get it.
