There are days where getting my teeth into a 3+hour VN fulfills my escapist yearnings as I visualise the characters mature in shape and character throughout the depths of the story to the point that I want to return each day to revel in the progression of the tale. Then there are moments where the same attachments to characters & plot occur in a VN that offers more of a glimpse than an immersion and this is the best way to describe Juniper's Knot with its slang English roughshodding you into it's sometimes course cursive prose

It starts with an unknown person being heard wandering throughout the ruins of a Manor as heard by a demon-lady who discovers it is a young boy lost in the night. The VN portrays the Demon-lady's pent up frustration at her dilemma by floating between inner thought texts and angry, sometimes cussing, chat during the early stages of their meeting.
The young boy also shows alot of passive-aggressive attitude to show he is unafraid of the demon-lady and we gradually see a smouldering between the two as they gradually understand each other's situation.

The writing style to this VN can, at times, read as broken English yet can also be caused by the use of the slang region accent but it also features a changing tone of emotions to reflect the 2 protagonist's wariness towards each other early on in the story that gradually lessens to a more tolerant & amiable attitude as the tale's central plot becomes apparent.

There is a wonderfully fitting use of songs by CombatPlayer that compliment the varying moods of the VN while also setting a relaxing, non-intrusive BGM so the writing still maintains the central role.
The artwork and backgrounds add a dark visual but also keeping it not too graphic so you don't deter from the sense of bonding being formed between the two protagonists.

For me this was the kind of VN that is well balanced and not too heavy with its writing yet was able to have you feeling the emotions being expressed by the Demon Lady and the Young Boy. Juniper's Knot also succeeds in creating a short VN that can easily fill a breaktime but manages to still deliver a tale that will satisfy you and for a FTP that balance works very well.
