Since the day i backed this game on kickstarter i had really high hopes for it. A pixel art, turned based, class based rpg with a deep story, it was my dream game and boy has it turned into one. Once the alpha released i was playing none stop with no breaks in between. The way all the characters, battle systems, writing and the world building is just perfect.

The games combat opens as a traditional turn based party rpg which seems boring to some but this game does something that makes genuinely all the battles in this game engaging, challenging and new. This mechanic is called the overdrive meter if i went into this mechanic here, This would probably take up your entire screen but just know it is a really good mechanic that makes turn based combat make you think about your abilities carefully no matter where you are in the game.

The story and its characters are also a sight to behold, there's the standard jrpg protag who becomes a lot more than just the protrag, the nerd, missfit, elder who has infinite knowledge. All those classic tropes are present in the characters but are barely seen in their writing after spending a few hours with the whole cast. And if you think its gonna be like any other jrpg where u breeze through the game with the same team you had in the beginning you are dead wrong. Not only are characters you gain later just better than others, some are also a lot better in late game than early game and the games challenges and bosses will force you to swap your team formation or at-least make you think of a different strategy. The whole cast is able to shine multiple times throughout the game in both their character and their battle power.
