Dave the Diver is a nice change of pace, especially when you play a lot of more fast-paced games. The core game play loop is that you go fishing to run a sushi restaurant in the evenings, but I was continually surprised by the ways in which the game modifies this loop. One day you may have to go hunt down a rare fish, while another day you are frantically searching for jellyfish to make as much cash as possible. On top of that, the game has so many one or two-off mechanics that you only see a handful of times but that make every dive feel unique, at least until you finish the game.

Don't let the pixel art fool you into thinking this game isn't great. The characters are lively, the fish look good, and the cutscenes are a great mix of hilarious and serious. This game made me laugh more than a few times just by watching cutscenes and scrolling the in-game Instagram equivalent called Cooksta.

If you are considering buying a game, you can't go wrong with this one. $20 gets you a game that is equal parts relaxing and silly, and it has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews for a reason.
