I would say the problem with this game comes from its aim and marketing in terms of gameplay.
Over all we have a really solid, well built dieselpunk ww1 world with excellent art style.
We have a decent story with decent characters, and we have some pretty compelling gameplay concepts.

Mechs are designed to be interesting, and almost each of them offers something unique. Infantry is kinda samy over factions, but there is enough differences to distinguish it.

So where does the game fail? Well if you look at the conclusion of the review, then the answer could be, nowhere, but there is one problem which ultimately killed this game's longevity from the start. It's trying to be Company Heroes. And yes people were, and I would wager still are yearning for a game that takes the legacy of CoH and reaches the same hights.

I'll say this categorically. It cannot be done. You would need years and years of engine and graphics development. Tens of years of game design, and animation experience to even begin constructing a game that will rival Company of Heroes, another year or two to not make it a buggy mess (which CoH absolutely is) and even then, you couldn't even come close to the success that Company of Heroes had, simply due to circumstances.

What Iron Harvest has now is an incredibly appealing IP, with a pretty good first entry. It would be wise from the developers not to try and chase Company of Heroes' glory and instead keep to what IH does best. MECHS. A tactical action focused RTS is a good concept, but this is first and foremost a mech game! A tactical action focused RTS is a good concept, but this is first and foremost a mech game!
Put the emphasis on mech combat, make the maps bigger, and less mazy. Put more emphasis into terrain and building destructibility. Make mech strongers. Increase the number of infantry, and make it viable to field huge swats of infantry (eg.: by eliminating production cap for infantry) to the point where a scenario where a single mech could mow down hundreds of men is a reality. Cut back on cover mechanics or eliminate them entirely. They have throughout the history of RTS games have always been buggy in every entry. Finally, make the game more gritty, the scenes more contrasted between the beautiful country before the battle, and the ugly muddy hellhole after the battle. Let mech corpses stay permanently even when the husk is destroyed, let corpses disappear really slowly or not at all. Make the game a war movie in every sense, both in scale and looks.

This IP has the biggest potential in RTS history, I truly believe it! I hope this wasn't a one-off, but a beggining of something great!

This game is banned in China for portraying the country as a a psychopatic, communist imperialist country which either overhwlmes its enemies by sending in huge masses of expendable units or uses nukes on a daily basis to destroy everything on the map.

This game was originally banned then censored in Germany for its portrayal of the brutal mass murders commited by a middle eastern insurgent state (not unlike Al-Quaida, or ISIS). How did they censor it? They made every human character in the game a robot, with a different porthole and distorted sound effects. They made the "suicide bomber" into a cart that carries a bomb.

This game is genuinely one of the stupidest fun strategy games ever made. It's really simple, yet plays amazingly. Every faction feels different, and every mission offers a new challeneg.

It was an absolute scumbag move on release, now they have added doubled the amount of units (pretty cool ones too) it is better value and better thematicaly now.
Still overpriced for my taste, I'd have much preferred a whole additional new lord with campaign mechanics, but at least it's no longer an absolute scumbag move.

One of the most imaginative wholesome platformers out there. Intuitive controls make for challenging puzzles that build on your platforming skills, understanding of momentum, and creativity all the while zooming you around beautiful timeless landscapes.

It's an absolutely must play adventure that ends on a highnote, and never starts being stale.
Only critique I'd have, is there isn't more of it. We need new stories, new adventures, new suit powers, new suit powers.

I hope it gets a sequel one day.

It is certainly the best Warhammer CRPG to date.
(partly because it's the only one, but also because it's really good)
