Early Access Review
Fun game. If you liked Monster Train and like RPGs you'll have a lot of fun with this onw. Lots of cool quests and relics (called vestiges) to collect and mix up your builds each run. Also, they removed all microtransactions so that's a plus/

Is the game perfect? No. Is it fun? Yes. I've played with friends, and randos and can recommend both. This isn't the type of game you can sit and play for 8 hours straight, but an hour or two of high intensity, adrenaline fueled action after work. It's my go to when I'm bored and need to kill a few hours.

After the class update the game is much more fun and each class has multiple ways to play, including support options if you don't want to be on the front lines of every engagement. If you really want to get sweaty you can have custom loadouts and builds to swap between depending on the team you are paired with.

This game has so much potential, but despite the devs already having 2 attempts under their belt, they just can't get it right. Will update in a couple years when the game has all the mechanics, cosmetics and teams they promised on launch.

Edit: Season 1 (4 months after release) - They finally gave us a reason to play the game with the bloodpass, and manager levels. The game is now playable, and the ladder is populated so i do not have issues finding a match after work. We finally have some field and dice variety and the new lizardmen look really cool. Unfortunately, we still do not have league tools, no diverse cheerleaders, player customization is prohibitively expensive, and we do not have a good variety of balls to choose from. I still cannot recommend this game to anyone but hardcore bloodbowl fanatics, and if you fall into that category, you are probably already playing the game.

Edit: Season 2 (8 Months after release) - New additions include spectator mode and the Underworld Denizens team. We still don't have replay mode, or league admin tools. I will keep the bellyaching minimal. If you didn't play season 1, there is no reason to play season 2. So far, this season has been very disappointing and it looks like the game will not be "done" until sometime in 2025. Small edit: Replays have been added, but you need to save your replay within 24 hours or it is lost forever. The saved replays take up a lot of space compared to BB2, so you should only save important ones.

Edit: Season 3 (12 Months After Release) - New Team, Undead. We also had some QoL updates, and new bugs. The biggest change is the addition of League Admin Tools. They run in your browser, not in the game client, so you have to jump back and forth and go through a lot of hassle to use them. They are still in Beta and designed for serious competitions with multiple human players. Designing interesting AI competitions is not really possible yet.

Edit: Season 4 (15 Months After Release) - New Team, Wood Elves. We can finally create custom teams to test out different builds and i have heard that some people are trying to use admin tools and custom teams to run official style tournaments. I believe many of those features are still janky and semi-functional. The game is slowly starting to come together, but i wouldn't recommend it to casual players yet.

They have released a roadmap for the year, and although i believe it is very ambitious considering what we've seen so far. If they can meet expectations, my review will be positive with the launch of season 7 (sometime around the end of the year). They have run consistently good winter holiday deals, so keep the game wishlisted and wait until Christmas to buy it at a discount when eternal league is available.

I first played Dwarf Fotress in 2011 for adventure mode. My first fort was nothing but a giant stairway to the circus because my adventurer was bored and wanted to meet some clowns. Since then I’ve learned fortress mode, interacted with the amazing Bay12 community and eventually decided to take a break until the release of the “Myth and Magic” update.

I followed the steam release at a distance and when it came out, told myself I would wait until Adventure Mode was ready. Don’t get me wrong, I was excited about the release and happy for the devs and community, but I didn’t plan on playing DF anytime soon. Made the mistake of watching a few youtube videos and bought the game on a whim. I’ve been hooked, playing as soon as I get freetime.

The new mod loader is really convenient and I immediately downloaded a handful of mods to make the game more !FUN!
Currently I’m playing as a Human Penal Colony on a desert (with an aquifer). We build aboveground and 90% of the fort is made of wood. We ran out of migrants after the first year and built a tavern to recruit guests…. Then the necromancers came, and the giant animals started attacking, we barely held them off, and extended our influence, forming alliances with nearby human and dwarven civilizations. But the Goblins declared war, and each season we face the green tide. The corpses have begun piling up and the necromancers are starting to return. Every human not in the military is locked indoors and I recruit foreign bards, poets and dancers from the tavern to scavange the wilderness for materials to upgrade our defenses. I’m in the middle of year 9, and can’t think of anything but this masterpiece of a game.

Minor note, after 9 years in the wilderness only 2 of my original 7 humans are still alive. The first is the leader of my Militia. He has over 100 kills and the only reason my fort has survived this long. I use his memories to track the brutal history of my fortress. The other technically died, I don’t remember how it happened, but she was laid to rest in a tomb. During one of the necromancer invasions, while my guard was distracted fighting nightmares and zombies, the necromancer snuck into my fort and found my tomb, raising some of my dead as zombie servants. When my military got back and killed the necromancers, the undead regained their intelligence and decided to rejoin the fortress. She is no longer human, but a Hollow One, she feels nothing, and is covered with scars from battles both before and after her first death. She can also shoot icicles from her hands, which is pretty cool.

I have a bunch of favorite characters and could go on, writing each one’s personal history, but that takes time, which I would rather spend playing the game.

I used to say Dwarf Fortress was my favorite game and the best game ever made. After a long break, the game has only improved.

∞/10

There are a lot of negative reviews about the battle pass. It is not pay2win and only gives you cosmetic items which frankly don't even look that good.

The main story is a solid 50+ hours of gameplay and the battle pass is designed to be purchased once you hit the endgame. So if you're worried about that, don't read reviews of anyone under 30 hours playtime.

The game is not perfect, it has it's flaws and there are very well written positive and negative steam reviews and youtube videos showing the game.

At the end of the day, I've put a lot of time into this game and have a lot of fun playing. Do your research and decide for yourself if you think you will have a good time.

If the combat looks fun and you're worried about the battle pass and endgame grind, buy it for the main quest. it is worth it, and that's if you're a solo with no friends. Join the discord and participate in the community if that's your thing, there's plenty to do and enjoy about this game. Temtem up!

Played the first game and had a lot of fun. When I heard they were making a sequel i bought it on launch, played about 10 hours, beat the game and got bored. Between then and now they added a bunch of free content including a free DLC, as well as 2 paid dlcs. Decided to hop back in and give this game another go. I already tripled my play time and once I get bored will buy all the DLC and play some more. Download the demo and try it out. There is a lot of depth and multiple ways to play making the game as easy or hard as you want. Hopefully they continue to release DLCs and content updates well into the future.

If Madden is a toy train set, this game is a sandbox. Madden follows the same path every year, but it looks nice, and is fun until you try to drive the train and realize you can't leave the tracks, and all the nice scenery is actually cheap plastic.

Axis Football is a sandbox, you have lots of freedom to customize and control everything in the game to your liking, but you're building with sand and it doesn't take much for everything to come crumbling down.

Franchise mode has incredible options which enhance the team management experience. With all this added depth, I assumed the game would be more difficult as you would have to compete with the AI and make smart management decisions or watch your team fall apart. From what I can tell, there are no difficulty options for the management side of the game, and after starting with a weak team, I made it to the playoffs my first season.

At the end of the season I traded away all my veterans for draft picks and fired my entire coaching staff so I could rebuild the team in a way I wanted. had a mediocre draft and started the next season playing in coach mode. I've been coaching on the hardest difficulty and have won all my games. My rookie QB is leading the league in Pass Yards and completion percentage. Despite this, the games themselves are very fun and I have had a few nail-biters. I will continue to enjoy this game, and after suffering through the same repetitive garbage EA cranks out every year, I'm glad to get a whiff of fresh air in the football simulation genre, even if it doesn't fully live up to my expectations.

I have been following this series since it's inception and I have seen drastic improvements every year. I am excited to see where this series goes in the next 5-10 years.

I really enjoyed Hammerwatch with friends and bought this to play the next game in the series. First thing to know for newcomers, this game requires a lot of grinding, and in the beginning it can be really frustrating dying to the same enemies over and over again.

Once you beat the game, the grind never stops, but that is where the game becomes fun. With an infinite number of New Game Plus levels, and additional content and challenges added with each run, it is a really fun game and embraces the arcade genre with beautiful pixel graphics and fast-paced, addictive game play.

The devs are really active and generally know what their playerbase wants. I have come to enjoy every change they made, even the ones I had mixed feelings on when they were first announced. Pyramid of Prophecy adds even more content and is well worth the price. This game is worth the full asking price on steam, and if you see it on sale, you can get a steal. You will know within 2 hours whether or not this game is for you, so give it a shot, you'll either get addicted to the grind, or ragequit after dying to another skeleton archer.
