Whenever you start to feel that you're finally going to win a war and be at peace, the rest of the known world will declare war on you because you are fighting a war. Even a defensive war. Just so you know that you have wasted the past however many hours of your life for nothing. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate this game, loathe it, and only own it so I can sometimes, barely ever, play it with other people who know more than I do and play better than I do. Not to mention, of course, that if you don't have DLC you are playing a bare-bones tech demo of a game - So, before buying even the base game, please consider the price of all the DLC and add it up. At the time of writing that is $176 USD. You can buy other, more meaningful things for less than that amount of money. Don't waste your money on this dumb game.

Once you wrangle a few friends, the game's a wonderful stressful casual game!

Singleplayer's fun. You fool around as you like in whatever games you have mounted.
The multiplayer component then shatters what you thought this game could do just based on singleplayer. There are communities that you will sink time into, getting to know the people there and having fun.
Buy it, because you could find the best fun or best friends you've ever had here.

To put it as simply as I can, play this game.
