Don't even think about playing this game if you're new to it.

The MMR system is meaningless to say the least. Your rank doesn't matter. Every second account is a smurf and Valve doesn't care at all.

They try to better the game with an insane amount of changes but they just made it downright broken.

Better go start LoL or any other Moba where the developer at least still tries

Update 23.04.25

With the newest update, Valve really outdid themselves. While adding a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless content which messes up the game even more and are an insult to the game it once was, the topic about smurf account is worse than ever before. Of course that's on top of the fact that Valve made a balanced game with comeback probability into the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ playing experience you can imagine by putting all focus on snowballing and carries while treating other positions like medieval peasants in terms of literally raping their wife during prima noctem.

Wonderful game, not only for fans of the old Gothic-Franchise. Don't be fooled by the rough intro and hard difficulty at the very beginning. You're a LVL 1 RPG Character - every single NPC or monster is a huge threat to you. The good thing is: this game gives you more than enough possibilities to work around. Eventually, if you put some effort into your character, the tables can turn very fast. It's highly rewarding to eventually destroy the beasts at a later stage, making up all the frustration you maybe had 20 hours before.

The combat system has its flaws, this is indisputable. Rather than drawing my whole attention to this, i like to see the combat system as a simple tool to achieve my aims in this game. With all the love to detail and interesting quest-lines, honestly, this game could work quite well without any combat at all. If you're looking for action-based, fast gameplay, then ELEX won't be the right choice. If you prefer a well-written script and complex characters over that, it is.

I understand why many critics talked negatively about the difficulty of this game. The reason is actually quite simple. People nowadays are not used to a game that refuses to give the player a comfortable start, except when it's called Dark Souls. This game wants you to work for your independence, to be annoyed by the cruel, deadly world around you, giving you a serious reason to overcome your initial weakness and getting the true hero you're meant to be. Even then, you won't get everything with only one playthrough, as many decisions will deny you further questlines.

In my opinion, there lies a great honesty in not feeding the player with every content you have right away. I like the idea of understatement and being secretive about certain ideas. If you look around with whole attention, you will be astounded how much content this game actually has. Good luck finding it yourselves!
