It's a perfect marriage of stupid, ugly and sensory overstimulating fun.

Pros
- heavy "one more run" effect
- satisfying rogue-like mechanics
- well designed loot and cards

Cons
- nothing special to look at
- lacking in the sound department
- leaves the player wanting more

Slay the Spire is a satisfying game for the players who enjoy games with core strategy elements. Combined with a rogue-like nature and heavily randomized events and outcomes that rarely feels unfair, this game deserves praise for the mechanics. The art style is simple, nothing flashy or polished, but also nothing that distracts from the core user experience. I would put this in the "clearly an indie game, but a good one" box, since it's clear that the game is designed to work smoothly instead of looking fantastic. There is so much more room for the game to grow. There could be more diversity in the enemies, more characters to choose at the beginning, more cards and more diverse pool of loot. But what the development team decided to do, they have done well.

Points: 82/100

Would definitely recommend for strategy-game players. A great game with great mechanics. Yet missing diversity leaves the player longing with even better experience. Hopefully we will see more updates, DLC or expansion packs in the future for the game.

For strategically inclined minds, this one is a gem. Only thing that the game leaves me wanting, is more customization options and branching paths, more everything! The game's core is structured well enough in a way that expanding the content is possible, and I have high hopes for this one's future. I'm giving it 8/10 with a thumbs up for the strategy gamers out there.
