Remnant 2.

It's so good.
A "Souls-Like" game on Steam that finally deserves its place... a souls-like that does not aim to gate keep me with absurd difficulties or awful movement and combat when paired with a Keyboard\Mouse. Featuring secrets and treasures around every corner, exploring each tile set feels incredibly rewarding. A wonderful blend of looter-shooter stats and gearing to make build-making and endgame min-maxing feel diverse at every stage of your playthrough. Randomly generated world layouts to make every single player's first play-through completely different from someone else's.

Every core system of this game is incredibly well fleshed out, requiring some level of attention and knowledge from the player to help in learning build making, boss fighting, and world layouts.

'Dark Souls with Guns'
As cringeworthy as this statement is these days, it does work as a description: Adding shooting to the genre really aids in the experience as a Keyboard\Mouse player, as I am always sick of the clunky movement and combat for the Standard Souls franchise. A classic gun and crosshair allow for another layer of game mastery and overall skill cap, which will be familiar to a lot of players. Remnant features a smooth and responsive gun playground for you to dodge, roll, and shoot things to your heart's content. Gun balance seems relatively well ironed out after the first few patches, and for your first few playthroughs, each gun shouldn't struggle with getting the job done until you are finally battling with Power Level 20 or Apocalypse Difficulty.

Randomly generated dungeons and loot!
Every playthrough will consist of five main areas. Yaesha, N'rud, Losomn, The Labyrinth, and Root Earth as well as your main base of operations, Ward 13. Each 'world' has two main layouts, each with a set final boss. The journey towards the boss will be different in some way each time (bosses, loot, side areas, secrets, and side quests). Everything will be shifted around and repositioned on each playthrough. Please understand. The game is meant to be played over and over again for full enjoyment.

Build Engineering
After my full time with the game, certain builds and formats saw repeated use of certain rings, and archetypes saw constant use compared to others, especially in the higher difficulties. But testing and making builds for your play style is entertaining and relatively in-depth for those willing to dig deep enough. But the topic of gear does push me towards the weakest aspect of the game, and that is in its comparison to the first game. Remnant 1 Featured unique and interesting armour sets that granted bonuses depending on the amount of pieces equipped, they added just enough excitement and build diversity to make them worth looking at, but in Remnant 2 armour feels boring and thrown together poorly with nothing but a 'Weight\Armour' rating, with almost every player using either the lightest they can find or the heaviest with almost nothing in between. I truly hope armour gets more exciting down the line.

Something for everyone
I'll start by saying here that I don't often find myself enjoying Souls-like games for their awkward way of gatekeeping fun by locking the enjoyment behind dying to a boss 50 times over because of insane twists and absurd mechanics that one could only learn through experience, or a locked difficulty forcing you to play the game way all the time without the ability to mess around on an easier setting or without the ability to challenge yourself further. Remnant 2 offers four difficulties: Survivor, Veteran, Nightmare, Apocalypse . I highly recommend starting this game on the lowest difficulty offered, especially if you want to play with friends, as the multiplayer scaling and latency can often be far too annoying to have to deal with a new mechanic on a higher difficulty. HP scaling is as follows: 100%, 150%, 250%, 275% and damage scaling is: 100%, 165%, 350%, 450% . As you can see, difficulties will spike your challenge dramatically, and the game itself recommends you only play on Nightmare+ if you have strong boss knowledge and build functionality.

- 150 Hours Later
• Multiple Survivor Difficulty Runs
• Veteran, Nightmare, and Apocalypse Completion
• Hardcore Veteran Completion
• 100% achievement completion

9.3 \ 10

Finally, a newly released game where I can happily say it's 'one of my favourites'. With the only issues being a few missing features that I wanted from the first game, the game shows fantastic polish, clear support from the development team with frequent patches and fixes, and a long road ahead of them with three promised DLCs to release the following year.

Do not be hesitant about trying out Remnant 2.
Feel free to ask questions about the game in the comments, or just bully me about writing too much.
