A Greek Metroidvania should need no other descriptor to justify playing. But accompanying it is a wonderful art style, a fitting musical score, and an Illiad-worthy tale to make this a literal god-tier experience. Puzzles, boss battles, and even simple platforming are woven into a sandbox approach that encourages using the environment and all at your disposal in every engagement.

While battles remain fresh, their conditions are often unique to most encounters. Akin to the arcade games it aspires to, the tools at your disposal sadly begin to fall to the wayside in the game's later stages, with its difficulty scaling surmounting to more targets that die slower.

Battles against larger or faster targets quickly lose their appeal, flung around the map like a ping-pong ball with little to do in response but hopefully catch these attacks on a rapidly degrading shield. While alternate playstyles of ranged or even traps are bobbed and weaved as every Olympian fights with the power of a thousand red bulls.

This is managed by the many god-like weapons you can stumble upon, another retro feel in its show-not-tell approach to narrative, with treasures and adventures often stumbled upon over being led right to the quest's start... Making even the smallest scenario interesting, as any nook could house the next reward to aid you on your journey.

While the balance of the game tips more towards tedium in its last hours, the sum of its parts makes up for any of its shortcomings, a genuine recreation of the days of do-it-yourself and figure-it-out that doesn't get the recognition it deserves in modern titles. Well worth it for anyone looking to go in blind and meet the challenge.
