Honestly... microtransactions aside, as a game i just think its absolutely mind-numbingly boring, it has sent me to sleep fighting the same 3 goblins every 30 seconds but at least they mix it up with 3 wolves now and then and perhaps the odd winged creature, the combat is boring, the dialogue is excruciatingly boring to listen to, you cant just let an NPC talk away you have to move the conversation along after every sentence with a button press, every time i see another NPC in the world i run the other way because its bound to be another pawn wanting to join you. Graphically its trash, the shadows flicker, NPC's spawn in right in front of your face in towns, grass looks blurry, performance in towns is awful (5800x 3d, rtx4090, 32gb ram, nvme drive), performance absolutely tanks for no explicable reason at random... climb a certain hill and suddenly it drops to 40fps, move back down the hill its 90fps again, there is nothing at the top of the hill its surrounded by walls, no amazing view or the world drawn in front of you for miles, nothing, it just drops at that spot for some unknown reason.

The world itself is boring as heck to explore, a few secret chests that have nothing interesting in then usually, you are often walking down linear paths with walls either side, funnelled along to your next amazing battle with 3 goblins, exciting stuff. There is nothing happening in the world, i see people praising it because it feels alive, what are they smoking, its dead... there is no dynamic events that ive seen, you might come across a couple of NPC's in a fight, a fight you don't want to be a part of because you just fought 200 goblins on your way here. Supposedly you make your own fun in the world... doing what exactly? seriously what are you suppose to do, go off the beaten path and just start fights in the hope something new happens. I just don't get it... this game received some 10/10's lol paid nonsense.

Have both EA PGA tour and this and i do prefer playing this game overall... this game presents a more realistic game of golf to me and is slightly more immersive even if visually its not up there with EA PGA. The backswing for example is far more authentic to reality in this game, in EA its awkward and slow and upsets the fluidity of your swing and shot... im sure you could get used to either with enough time on whichever game you choose but its still more authentic here. I feel like the ball behaves better here also, for example lofty shots dig into greens more, but arguably you can get more action on the ball on EA, i just prefer the reaction of the ball here and it moves generally as expected.

Shot selection is a win on EA for sure with more options and flexibility for shot types which may lead one to think the gameplay has more depth on EA but i just don't find that to be the case, its extremely rare i would want those extra shots because the shot selection here is enough to play the shot you want to play, but having the choice is a win either way and being able to play those more obscure shots adds authenticity.

Both games offer a vast selection of options for tuning the game to the difficulty you want but both become almost unplayable at the most difficult settings (for me anyway), swing dynamics become a little too important to the shot and i often find just the accuracy (or lack of accuracy) of controller sticks for example will be enough to slice or fade a ball way too much and leave you wondering why it went so wrong but you can find a middle ground in settings that adds some element of challenge to your shots but still leaves you in control enough to play a good shot or fluff it a little, so both games are great in this regard but i find myself more consistent with 2K.

Visually EA blows this game away, i play on a 4k OLED display using a 4090 and yeh its an awesome looking game in general with amazing courses and detail. However 2K is not bad looking at all, it still looks nice and i wouldnt say its a deal breaker at all... in fact, i often take these games on the go on steam deck oled and i think 2K actually looks far better on steam deck because its just so much more performant, i can push settings higher and even super sample to 150 percent on deck playing 2K and still hit a solid 30fps which is not ideal in most games but just fine with golf because there is no real camera movement on shots. EA on the other hand requires far lower settings, looks blurrier and struggles massively to maintain 30fps so its far less enjoyable on the go, somewhat expected ofcourse being a more demanding game.

Sound is a mixed bag, i much prefer the club on ball sounds on 2K, drivers sound more authentic here - as well as irons, they just sound off on EA but the whole sound presentation of EA elsewhere is a step above from menu music to commentary.

Its a shame the career is not a bit more fleshed out here like it is on EA but swings and roundabouts, the course creator here is nice and allowing the community to expand the game with great courses is something else.

Overall i just prefer 2K23 because it feels more true to the sport at a more micro level, its the little things like the swing feeling far more authentic and how the ball bounces but i could see why somebody would prefer EA's offering. If they both released a new game tomorrow i think id swing more towards 2k25.

Honestly... not quite the best pool/snooker game out there, the physics do seem a step above in virtual pool 4 but that's really where the advantage ends for VP4. The developers of this game are a real credit to the industry in general, every single time there is a concern or tweak the playerbase wants, these guys are there in the forums and take it all onboard and sometimes within hours there will be an update tuning the game and making minor adjustments, ive witnessed this multiple times and im honestly blown away they care as much as they do for a game that obviously is years old now and likely does not continue to sell much at this point, just within a few days of me writing this review ive seen a guy mention in the forums that the killer rules should be updated to reflect uk rules and within hours it was updated, then they updated the sound in a general update to improve ball on ball contact sounds and it seemed a little loud, I mentioned it in the forums and its updated hours later again with improvements, i don't know what more players could ask for from the developers. Updates still drop monthly. Compare that to VP4 which was last updated... what, 2 years ago now, its a different mentality and attitude towards their game entirely.

Visually it looks good but more importantly it performs great, not many games i can play on my steam deck at 4w with 12 hours battery life and 90fps, but this is one of them. Sound wise its fine, there could be more music choice but it is what it is, balls click and clack as expected.

Gameplay wise its very good if not quite perfect (yet), lots of options, different table sizes, different cloths, different balls, different games to play from snooker and pool to variations, 9 ball, 8 ball, killer the list goes on... its missing a career though, some kind of in depth career would be icing on the cake but i suspect that may be too much to ask considering the age of the game right, they would just call it cue club 3 at that point and make more money and im fine with that and i would pay for it.

The ball physics them self are a sticky point for me and many others, they are like 95 percent where they should be but at times you don't get the action you would expect on the cue ball or the speed/weight of the balls seems off, i mean they have options for the speed of everything, cloth speed, ball speed, friction etc etc, the options are endless but you never quite land on what you think feels right, like slow seems too slow but normal feels a bit heavy and there's no in between, so maybe a slider with more minute adjustments would be good but then it becomes a question of why do i need to make the physics feel right when they could do it for me, but i really cant blame the developers, it just feels like it might not ever get there for feel when compared to VP4 perhaps from a limitation of the game engine. Controls can also feel a little off, you either hit the balls too hard or sometimes not hard enough as you try to tame the power and again there are so many options to make adjustments its difficult to know what settings you need for it to feel just perfect (especially on steam deck using track pads). Its like so close but that 5 percent that feels wonky is almost enough to put you off the game while VP4 is just about perfect in how the balls roll and react but the game around it is dead and lifeless in comparison to CC2.

Honestly its hard not to recommend this game, difficult to criticise knowing the love they clearly still have for it. I think there is a really really solid game of pool/snooker here and i cant give the developers enough credit for their attitude towards the game and i hope they have done well enough to start crafting a cue club 3 with a serious career mode and they will have something special in this sport as far as videogames go.

brilliant... yakuza games have always had a way of grabbing you like watching a great movie, even after just a couple of hours this is set to be a hell of a ride. Ive laughed my a$$ off, almost shed a tear, kicked some a$$ and not even touched the star of the show yet which is hawaii. These devs do not get the credit they deserve, while not the most graphically impressive games ever made - it seems every cutscene is well thought out, its not just the voice acting but the details that make it believable, the mannerisms, the deep breaths, interacting with the environment, it just sells the characters and story and they are masters at this.

Its brilliant, i love it.

NG+ needs to be in the base game, for how good these guys are at making this franchise, this was a huge stumble, its really not that important considering just how much game we get every time but this smells like the start of something bigger to come when it comes to monetising basic features. This is not the way to make higher tier options more attractive. We have AA studio's out here adding in NG+ as a free update (robocop for example) and AAA studio's taking it away and locking it behind a paywall, its not cool. But its just so good regardless and i have no doubt ill be super satisfied by the end.

i like the game but it needs a little more polish, the gameplay is good, i like the tactical aspect but feel like there is an obviously optimal path one should take. I also like the chitter chatter between the characters, they need more of that... it honestly feels like a snes starfox card game spin off. The presentation is hit or miss for me, i like the pixel art design and the theme but the cards themselves look underwhelming, there really needs to be an overhaul on the artwork to give every card a unique interesting look... many are the same design but with higher numbers when there really should be an artwork change to highlight the increased power of the card at a glance. it takes away from the ''card game'' aspect for me when it does not really feel like im playing a deck of cards but instead just selecting instructions laid out in plain boxes. It would be nice to see the characters integrated into the cards themselves as a way to spruce up the artwork, having dizzy be on the cards himself holding a shield in the background for example but the stronger the card the bigger the shield, upgrades would then have a bigger visual impact on the card rather than just an increased number. probably a stack of work that will never be done at this point but... modders - could overhaul everything.

Its a great game, really enjoyable but its these aspects that somewhat keep it beneath STS. Workshop support would go a long way to bringing this game right up there with the best even though, with that said, it is right up there with the best, its a great tactical deckbuilder with a bit of that old school starfox charm.

solid game of golf but find myself leaning towards 2k more often, visually EA pretty much nail it, players could be improved but they are not bad. sound wise its a little less impressive, i feel like drives sound off in particular, 2k drivers sound more authentic but then every driver is different in reality so maybe its just down to differences in clubs but yeh for me just sounds how i expect it to in 2k and off in EA. There seems to be a false contact issue in EA too, in particular while putting, often there seems to be a fraction of delay between you hitting the ball and it getting going, it may be the camera angle i use or something but it feels off, again 2k seems to look and feel a bit more solid in this regard, its very very minor but its about immersion right and this kind of thing takes you out of it.

Both games give you great flexibility in setting the game up how you want to play, as easy or as tough as you like but for me using swing mechanics i find EA to be wildly inconsistent, shot shaping is just a major fail with you relying solely on the accuracy of your controllers sticks to track in a straight but diagonal line and often through little fault of your own its off the mark and it has a huge impact on your accuracy. You can switch shot shaping to straight up and down swing while still applying fade or draw which helps you be more consistent but its still far too sensitive to your sticks not being perfectly accurate so far too often you miss hit the ball, its like some kind of cracked RNG where regardless of if you feel like you played it well its blind luck if the game considers it well struck due to the sticks needing to be pin accurate. It could be confused with difficulty and i guess if you put hundreds of hours into it rather than tens it will just click but it feels off and pushes me towards the other option, 2k.

Game is packed reasonably well with content, career has some depth (although unlocking shots you KNOW you should be able to do from the off is just A$$), It does give a path for progression which is nice and encourages you to work towards that progression.

The game could run better, i use a 4090 equipped pc and framerate is generally solid at 4k max settings but i have far too many crashes, its unstable to say the least. I also have a steam deck and asus rog ally and this game underperforms on those devices, particularly when compared to 2k which can double the framerate of this in those situations, but more importantly 2k is far more stable. No FSR for AMD handhelds is a missed opportunity to make this game very playable on the go but 30 plus is still easily achieved on deck, 45 plus on ally just about.

If you like golf and want to sit back and play some while not on the range or course yourself, still worth a buy.

EDIT: good to see regular updates to the game and how it plays, small tweaks and improvements are welcome and needed, 2k on the other hand are not updating their game and just updating the money grabbing season pass. a notable positive here.

Its a mess, what are these guys playing at, is it april fools already? nothing worse than starting a map completely empty with a 4090 and its sub 60fps, its just not acceptable - why not just delay it. Its not just the performance either the game is seriously lacking in content so they can plan a nice long list of DLC's to milk us to death with. I thought these devs were better than this.

Its easy to see there is potential here, the pedigree of pro evo is here but its lost so much ground to FC (formerly fifa) and its now just a shadow of what could have been. no single player to speak of, no career, no master league (jeez remember that masterpiece of a game mode). The on field action is relatively solid, snappy and alive with good pacing but comparing directly to FC 24 which ive now played a bit its clear to see although they have so many problems of their own they have run away with it in almost every aspect, there really is no competition and its a shame because had this been a real football game with actual game modes and depth it would be a battle of the ages as it always was between these two giants of the game.

FC 24 specifically ( i skipped the last 5 fifa games at least ) is massively more in depth with multiple career modes, online play etc for one set price ( with microtransactions as always in typical EA fashion )... the on field action while pretty damn slick here is just not as slick as FC, the animations are jarring here where in FC its now extremely fluid, players have momentum and weight and you feel like every kick of the ball should be possible but in the short time i spent with efooty there were a few times i kicked the ball and the animation snapped to the position it would need to be to make the kick if that makes any sense. FC also has more options with control however performing many of the actions there, some of which are pretty simple like a power shot just seem to require quite a bit of finger gymnastics on the control pad, you really work for the shot you are planning in your head but here its far more simple overall.

Konami need to walk this model back, drop a real competitor to FC because its easy to see why some would argue this plays a better game of football, master league, career etc, fill the game out and this could be a winner but as it stands its just a shadow of what it could be if they just dug a little deeper... its almost like they have conceded they cant win that fight but they actually could, many people prefer this style of gameplay but for me its some ways behind even in that aspect. cant recommend.
