Early Access Review
It might be for someone...but I don't think it is for me.

A collection of potentially interesting ideas that so far amount to less than the sum of its parts.

Movement and combat is weighty but oddly sluggish and dull. Characters default movement speed and control makes them feel like an obese arthritic.

The fixed camera angle makes exploring and combat artificially challenging and annoying.

Crafting seems shoehorned in and adds nothing of interest to the health mechanics.

I quite like the art style - like someone made a Diablo clone in the Dishonored engine - but the environment layout and design aren't very compelling so far and unlike a FromSoft game I just don't have the same compulsion to see what is just around the next corner...

I am going to keep playing to see if further upgrades and mechanics start to unlock the game a bit for me, but so far it has been a slog.

Early Access Review
I waited a long time before dipping my toe into the early access, and I am glad I did.

Presentation, voice acting, graphics, sound and writing are all top-tier. Having come off the back of Divinity 2, the more traditional D&D combat was a bit of a learning curve, but I am loving it now - feels higher stake and more satisfying in many ways.

The only negative is that we have to wait for the remaining acts, but I will definitely be getting more than $100 worth of entertainment from Act 1 alone.

Despite a few rough edges, this sequel takes everything I liked about the the previous game and kicks it up a notch. The sense of pressure and urgency really keeps things interesting and I felt much more invested in the story than before.

Personally I think the controversial mission/turn timers are for the most part a great addition and force different tactical approaches other than the tried-and-tested "Overwatch Creep" which you otherwise fall back on.

I actually preferred the more streamlined tactical/base building game present here and once Firaxis patch out the niggling performance issues and glitches, it will put the icing on an already delicious cake. The already impressive array of Mods will ensure that the game has a potentially huge lifespan too.
