Early Access Review
1 Mar, 2019: it used to be that i'd recommend this game in a heart beat and have played it for hours on end with my friends and my girlfriend, but after the latest update i find myself avoiding the game instead of enjoying it. my friend defaulted on only playing the ps4 version because his pc even on the lowest settings would lag his pc to no end. i've tried playing it as is and while the graphics have gotten a significant boost in quality the core part of the game feels like its been stripped away. where you used to be able to check if the zombies have anything on them and some times had good loot you now have to kill nearly 50 zombies to find something, i kid you not i though they removed loot from zombies completely when i booted up a new world and i got food poisoning from eating my first rations,MY FIRST RATIONS. i was confused because it was the only thing i had ate or drank it was over whelming what i went threw my first half hour playing A17, it annoyed me to the point that i left the game there. i was already dying of food poisoning in the first half hour of the game i had JUST started, why start me off with something that's going to kill me slowly because, i cant find meds on nurses any more since loot drops is so flipping' rare now. on top of that you make it even more difficult for me to carry stuff around because almost half my inventory is locked off early game. there are some improvements from A16 like being able to take back your arrows (mostly) and the game looks better/nicer, i haven't gotten far enough to get a car or to test out any of the new stuff but they look cool and apparently there are raiders (haven't encountered any yet) a.i. is better, the houses/buildings look nicer and the biom's are bigger but that's all i can think of right now all in all A17 took 1 step forward and about 4 steps back. id recommend you wait for alpha 17.(whenever all this stuff is fixed)ill remain hope full and keep checking back, but until being fixed i cannot recommend.

22 Dec, 2024: hey its now been over 5 years and i can say that a lot of the issues have been addressed.

we lost the giant wasps permanently at some point (i will forever miss you my honey carrying angels of death) but the weapon crafting system has been very much improved and no more dysentery with the first food you get, and while i still miss the ability to kill a zombie to loot their bodies the loot drops are decent and reasonable I've still not gotten to test drive a car due to crash and save mishaps but that's mainly due to a mixture of unity shenanigans and hardware issues. but is is still an incredibly enjoyable game worth the buy.

its hard to believe this game started WAY back when, on Newgrounds.com , as a side stroller then developed in to a full fledged game after the amount of years it has been in the works and the dev team still plays around with the game and still updates i've had this game for years and ill probably still be playing it for years to come

the loot is rarer but its better in some way or another, graphics i understand i need to play half/quarter textures to play whit low lags, and the food thing you are right some rations like that shouldnt give food poisoning or atleast on start you should get something what dont give you it (didnt get food poisoning and dont know how it works yet) atleast you gave some good reasons why its worse than A16 but atleast cops are easier.
