The time has finally come. After two years, the fandisc of The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me got released. So, with that out of the way, I will refer to it as Koikuma, the Japanese short title as The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me is pretty long after all. Anyway, I was excited when the fan disc got announced, although there was a lot of other exciting news along with that such as the last entries of the I Walk Among Zombies games, but I digress.. So, back to the important topic and question you surely all are waiting for me to answer: Does the Koikuma fandisc live up to my expectations? โ€” Yes, and let me tell you why...

As a piece of side information, it's highly recommended to play the base game of Koikuma beforehand as the stories do not make sense without any prior knowledge.

Applying The 18+ Patch is Highly Recommended

Let me start by saying that the 18+ patch is absolutely mandatory for the fandisc of Koikuma. You see, only one out of ten stories are available in the all-ages version. Luckily, the patch is free to obtain through Denpasoft and very easy to install and apply as well. Anyway, whilst it is possible to only play through the available single story, the patch adds a lot of content so I would highly recommend applying it. The reason for that is that not only adult scenes got censored but 90% of the stories. Either way, if the player is not interested in those scenes they still have the option of manually skipping them.

You can find the free 18+ patch here on Denpasoft.[denpasoft.com]

The Execution of the Stories

In this case, I decided to separately review the all ages and adult version, although I highly encourage to play the fandisc with the adult patch applied due to the reasons stated above.

The All Ages Version โ€” Gome Route

Well, admittedly I booted the game up without using the 18+ patch for the first time. I was greatly confused after going through the all-ages version as the one single story seemed way too short to me. To my surprise, I found out that most of the content was locked and decided to give it another try. Well, let's move on to the content of the all-ages version.

The only story that is available here is the Gome route. Anyone who played the base game is surely already familiar with her and I found the idea of her having an own route hilarious, yet I was curious at the same time. Either way, I found the way her route was handled very creative and although there is not a lot of things that happen during the playthrough, I couldn't stop laughing. The reason for that is that it was hard for me to take the whole story seriously due to the silly premise but luckily, it wasn't meant to be serious, to begin with, so I didn't feel too bad about it. After all, she is only a maiden looking for her true love as well, just like the other girls.

In short, I absolutely adored Gome and her route, even though it's very short and there wasn't enough playing time to properly flesh it out, the comedic tone made it all up to me. In addition to that, I have to specifically applaud her voice acting here, as I found it utterly entertaining.

The Adult Version โ€” Well, The Rest of The Stories

Firstly, there is a story for each heroine of the base game available in the fandisc. Those stories are after stories that take place after the happenings in Koikuma. Honestly, there isn't a lot to mention here as the stories follow the same concept as the base story, except that they're shorter than the previous but original routes. Each of the stories is filled with a lot of H scenes, as well as comedy that probably managed to convince every Koikuma fan, including me. Whilst I personally am not interested in erotic content, I loved the comedic scenes in Koikuma which made the whole playthrough utterly entertaining to me. So, the same quality can be expected here as well, and luckily, this DLC didn't let me down.

Well, if you do the math, there is still a story missing, right? The last one, besides the after stories for the eight love interests and the additional Gome route, is a harem story. Admittedly, this story was my least favorite because I feel like it offered very little interaction between the main character and the heroines. Well, I guess there is a lot of interaction when it comes to adult scenes, but that's all this route has to offer. In this case, it could either be a hit or miss, although it does offer plenty of fanservice.

Kinetic Novel

There is only one end available for each story and whilst choices are implemented, the result will be the same. Anyway, when starting a new game the player can select which story they want to read through so they can easily pick the girls they liked in the base game. This way, it's possible to skip certain stories and only read the ones that are interesting to the player. When playing the all-ages version, the game will always start Gome's route so there is no selection available. Anyway, this concept fits Koikuma as the player only selects the route they want to enter so it's similar to it.

Graphics, Voice-Acting, and The Immersion

In addition to the stunning graphics, Koikuma adds a lot of new CGs with the fandisc. To my delight, this visual novel implements subtle animations as well where the characters are blinking, although the H scenes are more lively. However, it's important to mention that not all of those scenes are animated, although they might be quite distractive as well. The player can even visit specific events again in the options after completing a story and select the ones they want to experience.

Except for the main character, every girl is voiced. To my pleasure, the Japanese voice-acting is high-quality in the fandisc as well. A minor issue for this part is when the VA comment gets unlocked after going through a story, there are no subtitles available for it so I was unable to comprehend what the voice actress was saying. Luckily, it doesn't affect the stories so it wasn't a huge deal to me.

So, what do we have in the end?

I would definitely say that the wait was worth it. Even if it took a while for the fandisc to get released, I felt nostalgic while playing it and was excited to see what it offers. Unfortunately, a lot of content is locked in the all-ages version, however, the 18+ patch is luckily free. Anyway, I was delighted that my expectations of Koikuma got fulfilled and I could find the aspect I loved so much about this series here once again: The comedy. So, that being said, I'm positive any fan of the Koikuma game will absolutely adore the fandisc as well. I mean, how can anyone pass on a romantic date with Gome, the whale?
