I got this game with Humble Bundle, so not 'free' but I didn't pay their asking price, and I wouldn't recommend doing so.
It starts off strong with some interesting puzzles. The pace is slow and measured, but there is high art/texture detail and dark ambient music with heavy reverb.

The combat is absolutely terrible. The character you play as is far too slow and clunky to dodge incoming attacks, and in many of the fights, you are sitting, waiting for the melee tool to recharge , which you will have to do twice in a fight with 1 monster.

This could have been a myst-like, but the "combat" is so souring and disappointing that it is not worth finishing for me.

It's alright- unforgiving roguelike with some really neat spell combos. Definitely keeps you on your toes, as death comes fast.

Not without its faults, but a really charming great metroidvania with a one of a kind visual style. One of the better recent Indy titles.

This game is riddled with bugs that make it unplayable. The devs seem to be worried about nerfing weapons instead of connectivity and stability. Maybe it's an effort to run the game into the ground now that copies have been sold.

-edited- still very hard to recommend this game, still many game breaking bugs. It's fun, but can be very frustrating for how incomplete it is. I have not been able to get through a game without crashing-- it seems they have patched in bugs.

I like it. Especially the Dark maps.

single player was a lot of fun

This one is a side scroller banger... Great story, great soundtrack, and the core gameplay mechanics feel solid. If you're remotely interested in this one, don't skip it.

Really wanted to like this game but the core gameplay is seriously flawed. Hopefully it's fixed in later patches, but in it's current state, it's a frustrating clunky mess.

Seems well optimized. It ran fine on hardware that it should run fine on.

There might as well not be music, there are vague slow tones, regardless of what's happening.
Combat is slow going, extremely clunky, and unsatisfying.
The gameplay seems to be wandering around and either killing something easily, or dying.
Control scheme is reasonable, but inconsistent, and seemingly an afterthought for the PC market.
Graphics are average, if not slightly above. The world has some kind of desaturated filter on it that makes everything seem dull. It's a blurry mess unless you turn off motion blur and depth of field.
The art is good and consistent, which makes up for some of the visual shortcomings of the game.
The plot in 2 hrs of play is totally incoherent. There's a lot of exposition in cutscenes without any bearing. The few characters you talk to dialogue dump about what I can only assume matters later. I would consider the writing below average.
In 2 hrs of play, I leveled up, which increased some stats that didn't impact anything in a noticeable way. I got some armor that increased some stats which also seemingly had no impact.
This game reminds me of old dreamcast games from the bargain bin..It'd be an absolute gem if it cost $5 and
I only owned 4 or 5 other games, but with modern gaming, there is fierce competition and this did not hook me.
Normally I am okay to 'wait and see' but with all the rave reviews it caught, this game was an extreme disappointment.
