To address the common criticisms:
  • PSN account is NOT required but come on, it takes 5 minutes to make one.
  • Game performance was fine!
  • I experienced 1 crash in my full playthrough and some minor bugs which day 1 patch fixed for me.

More in-depth review:
The Until Dawn remake is good but not perfect, although it is very nice to finally have the game on PC. My main issues with the remake are the musical score and camera control. The new score is truly awful but you do kind of acclimatise to it by the end. And the camera is more just a minor critique in that the new 360 degree control camera results in a slight loss of tension in sections and also loss of some atmosphere (and cinematic feel!). I think it works in some sections well but should have been more restricted in its implementation, fortunately there are some locked camera positions but they are far and few between. Oh and yes, I have played the original and if you can play that version it is still superior.

TL;DR
- Play the original if you can, if not this is still worth it, key summary below.
Pros:
  • Good to have the game on PC to a wider audience.
  • Graphics are nice (although the original still holds up as well).
  • Includes some minor new bits to interact with and scene that was previously pre-order exclusive on original version.
  • Steam achievements (also linked to PSN Trophies!)
  • Performance is good!

Cons:
  • New musical score is awful, original is much better.
  • Minor critique about camera control (see above).
  • Had some bugs at launch, seems Day 1 patch fixed the worst of them, although textures loading on new chapter start is still bad (even on SSD). This is more immersion breaking than anything else.
  • One crash when playing - fixed by tuning graphics settings.
