A good experience and a good piece of art.

Very fun and challenging. The movement is very fluid and reliable. Music is top-notch too.

A very rich world with very rich characters, presented in a unique and fitting art style. Very stimulating.

Absorbing combat. Smooth and acrobatic movement. Excellent world-building. Incredible music. Wonderful art-style. All at a cheap cost. There exists not a single reason to not play Hollow Knight.

Exquisite indeed.

My only gripe is that you can only experience the game for the first time once.

Despite having only two characters in need of emotional depth, both of them lack it. It boils down to the game directly telling you "This character feels this way about X". Both characters act plain, the emotion between voice and movement don't match, and very little is done to emphasise the way both characters feel.
Being a very small game that probably took a very short time to develop, there was plenty of opportunity to refine it into something better. Short stories can have emotional and developed characters despite their length, but this game has not managed that.
So despite this game being free, I cannot recommend it. It simply isn't worth your time.
