Hilarious and absurd open-world game

Featuring stupid and hilarious plot and gameplay, this game continues the same trend from the previous game in this franchise. The over-the-top absurdity in vehicles and weapons from the previous game in this franchise has been enhanced, and now the player even have access to super powers to create more carnage and mayhem to the world in a very fun way.

The game starts out with ridiculous plot to hook the player in. And the more you progress into the game, the more super powers you unlock. These super powers will make the game even much more fun than ever.

The background plot is a little bit disappointing though. It feels as if the developer has ran out of ideas that doesn't make sense, and started to add in alien and matrix and other stuff to make it logical again. In my opinion, this game should not make sense (comparing what they have done in their previous Saints Row The Third game). Ignoring this fact, the game is still pretty enjoyable.

Co-op gameplay

This game features a drop-in-drop-out 2 player co-op gameplay. The entire game campaign can be played together with a co-op buddy.

Technical reviews (graphics and music)

This game forced me to upgrade my gaming rig due to how resource intensive it is. Do not bother to play this game if your rig does not meet the recommended hardware requirements. Frame rate drops and random crashes are to be expected unless you have a good enough GPU and CPU. Also, try not to run other programs in the background if your RAM isn't a lot.

Same as their previous game, the in-game radio station contains a lot of nice musics. And this time, you do not need to be driving a vehicle to listen to them, which is a good plus for me.

DLC Review

This game have way too many DLCs. It will be easier and cheaper to just buy the "Game of the Century Edition" to have access to all the important ones, especially those that add more side quest contents to the game.

Most DLCs are alternative weapon types or skins. They are fun to play with, but unlike the previous game, they will still need to be purchased in-game.

Story DLCs are the ones worth getting. They each adds on 3-5 missions worth of side quests, which have their own unique self-contained world and story. I highly recommend going thru all these mid-to-late game once you unlocked enough super powers. Completing these DLCs will reward you with DLC-specific weapons, vehicles, characters etc.

For achievement hunters

You will need to own some of the DLCs of this game for 100% completion (mainly DLCs that add more missions to the game). It will be easier to just get the "Game of the Century Edition" for that.

Completing the achievements are not impossible, but will require some effort. There are a mix of grinding achievements, some missable ones, and some requires a co-op buddy. You do not necessarily have to restart the entire game for the missable achievements, you can join other player's game as a co-op buddy if they have not completed that part of the mission yet.

Conclusion

I have enjoyed a lot in this game.

I would consider this game as one of the last masterpiece by the old THQ, and the best game in the Saints Row franchise so far.

My score: 9.5/10 (Must play!)
