If all the games to almost make me cry I didn’t think placid plastic duck simulator would be one
The sheer unbridled joy that I just feel playing something so calm, peaceful and inoffensive for so long feels so good. Seeing these beautiful, beasts doing nothing but being placid plastic ducks in the water is so beautiful to me. They serve no purpose but to make you smile. They are just plastic ducks floating around in a pool in the middle of nowhere, but that’s all they need to be. I can’t explain why, but this came just makes me so emotional. These are just creatures living their lives, floating around on an endless pool and it’s beautiful. I am overcome with emotion I don’t fully understand. Like watching a movie you don’t understand but it makes you cry… you can’t fully make sense of it, all you know is that it makes you feel so good.
Especially after how much time I’ve sunk into games like just cause 3, GTA V, GTA online and Fallout 4, it’s just so jarringly calming to play something with no guns, no action, no drugs, no violence, no objectives, just sitting and smiling in a void of placid plastic ducks floating with no destination in mind.

GREAT GAME

Honestly...I'm really conflicted about this one if I'm being completely honest. Not about if you should buy it or not, you totally should. It's a fun little time sink, 8 short little levels and a boss level with no boss that you can beat pretty quickly if you're skilled enough, but provide enough of a challenge where they never feel way too easy or ungodly hard at all. the first four levels are really unique, not really in their contents but what they do with the concept. They're all very tight and fun to play, but the second half of the batch of levels is where I get a bit iffy on my thoughts on the game. The second batch/row of levels reuse the same assets as the first 4, so none of them feel nearly as special and unique as the original 4 do. so, the first snow level has a single "Jumpscare" if you wanna call it that, and then afterwards on level 5 it just goes HARD on the horror for no reason, with a creepy chase sequence against the stars from level 1 who are now EVIL, and there's a pretty good creepy fakeout ending! I was like..."oh dang, is the game gonna get all scary and stuff now?" to which I was incredibly disappointed when they did NOTHING with it after that one level and what can barely be called a scare in the next ice level where there's just a few snowballs with teeth that look at you funny and that's it. So, the horror part was a letdown, as they did nothing with the concept that had a lot of potential, and I don't think that this game should have a horror tag on it on the store. It's a bit misleading if you're looking for something like DDLC. The final level, though, Is great. they've moved on from the horror aspects but still have an uneasy and uncanny feeling due to the fact that grim reaper guy is huge and clones of him are floating around in the background. the level is made up of bits and pieces from all the other levels floating around in space, which I appreciated. It really does feel like a fun culmination of everything you had done up to that point. The lack of a boss battle was fine but also a bit disappointing, as well. So, all in all, if you're looking for a few hours to kill on a tight budget, this game's pretty fun! There's two secret characters to unlock if you're good, for getting all the stars and getting an A rank on each level respectively. Very good game and I eagerly look forward to the sequel.

Did I have fun? Yes. Is it a good game that's enjoyable to play? Not really, no. The messages went a bit over my head when I played it and I came out incredibly confused and I came out feeling like it was a passion project of sorts, a digital piece of vent art if you will. It doesn't feel like it was intended for a wide audience in mind, as most of it is downright absurd or nonsensical. I ended up playing it in a VC with friends and laughing at the absurdity of it and getting scared by the lazy jumpscares, but came out feeling confused and like I missed something. If you want some easy steam achievements and want to try a more experimental game with a dollar to spare, buy it, but if you’re in games for the story and want something more substantial and worthwhile, this I do NOT recommend.
