BattleBlock Theater is an indie action/adventure game, released around May of 2014 from the Behemoth developers. It’s a very well done title and it gives you the vibe of old school console platformers with some nice visuals to appeal you even more.

The story is pretty simple and straightforward, you wake up and find out that you and all of your friends were kidnapped by some technological evil cats and they are forcing you to enter their own private show by performing on their theater. So your main goal here is to survive all the chaos and deadly traps along the way in each level, until you can reach the end and save your friends from the claws of those evil crazy cats.

Another strong point in this game is the comedy and the dark and crude humor explicit in the storytelling. It’s so fresh and so appealing that you will be hooked from the first minute and by the end of it you will be crying your eyes out of laughter.

The gameplay is very smooth and easy, you can either play it with your keyboard or a controller and the pace of the game is well set. You start with the easiest levels and as you progress it gets harder and harder every time. It helps to give you the real feel of the game and the first levels almost work as a tutorial of some sorts for all the new players.

There are over 450 levels for you to enjoy, either in the story mode, the arena modes and you can even create your own levels to play and also share them with the community.
You can play by yourself or with your friends. This game has single player, online PvP and co-op and also local PvP and co-op as well, so you can still enjoy this game with your bestie on the couch even if you don’t have that many online friends to play it with. :P

There is also an interesting “insane game mode” for those looking for a real sick challenge, you can play the whole story of the game with a single life and if you die, it’s all over! No restart, no second chances. You die, you have to start it all over from scratch! So go on, show us your true colors of a hardcore gamer peeps! >Muwahaha<

There are around 300 fellow prisoners for you to rescue throughout the game and each one allows you to add them to your collection, which means you can use their cosmetics later on to change your player appearance in game. Also on the same note, you can unlock new weaponry to make the gameplay really enjoyable and new if you decide to replay all the levels.

To unlock these new items you have to finish every level with flying colors tho, that is being able to get to the very end of the level but also never forgetting to pick up and collect all of the gems (even the hidden ones) and the golden thread.

The art style is awesome and amazingly done, it’s very simple but in this case, i think it suits the genre to the point of perfection. It has a huge impact on the gameplay and story as well.

The soundtrack and sound effects are very nice, clean and funny, it gives you the extra audio cue tip when you do certain things in game and it makes it even funnier every time you die as well (or every time you decide to push your fellow sidekick to the gutter XD).

Overall it’s a fun and engaging game to play, it will challenge your skills of gamer for sure and also your teamwork, if you decide to play it with a friend. This game has nothing boring about it and it will entertain you for hours.
I strongly advise you to at least once try it solo and then with a friend. You will see that this game is actually a gem in disguise and you will love it by the end.

Just on a side note here real quick, also keep in mind that if you are not very skilled at playing platform games on the harder difficulty levels you may get frustrated and angry because you can’t pass it right at the first try and you might die like...a lot! XD So just keep trying and you will eventually get there and don’t forget to smile. XD
It’s the journey that counts and not the end result. :D
