I've only played this for about an hour. In that hour, I was already stunned by what I saw, being a huge fan of the original 1998 game.

the new player experience is terrible. i lost access to my old blizzard account, so i thought this would be a perfect opportunity to start overwatch fresh.

the new player experience is horrible. most heroes are locked. no voice chat allowed. game handholds you constantly, essentially dictating where and what you need to be playing at all times.

i also don't want your stupid battle pass blizzard, knock it off.

a fun survival game with a charming artstyle. also the fact that everyone speaks like an instrument is oddly charming.

also don't stay out in the dark too long.

Team Fortress 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time.

However, I cannot recommend it in good faith anymore in 2021, 2022 or 2023. Especially after the game has been neglected by Valve for so long and how deafening their silence has been on a lot of core issues regarding the game - and I am not just talking about the absurd cheating problem - I cannot, in good faith, recommend it anymore.

Team Fortress 2 was released in 2007 and to say it revolutionized class-based first person shooters would be a massive understatement. Hell, I'd say it was a bold-faced lie. For years after it was released it was nurtured and loved by Valve, with updates helping to further along the game's core concept and add amazing new additions, like Payload in 2008 and Mann vs. Machine in 2012.

One day everything just stopped. TF2 stopped being updated. Valve seemingly had moved on from it. Nowadays, every so often, we get a minor update or a minor tournament announcement on the official blog and that's about it. Update droughts spanning months (or years if major updates are what you're thinking) are unfortunately way too common. You can use the shoddy Competitive Mode as an example of this. Added in 2016 during the highly-controversial "Meet Your Match" update, improved upon with a better ranking system in 2018 during an unnamed patch (the fans call it the "Blue Moon Update" due to the Blue Moon Cosmetic Case being added that update) and then...that's it. No updates whatsoever since then. No lifting graphical restrictions, no class limits, no map pool rotations - nothing.

Same thing happened with stuff like the ConTracker - an amazing idea that was executed very well and then...abandoned. It showed so much promise yet Valve threw it under the bus entirely.

The community's doing its best to keep this game alive and kicking, with projects like CreatorsTF and just big YouTubers choosing to host their own vanilla TF2 servers rather than play on the radioactive wasteland known as Casual Mode, and honestly that's how I play TF2 nowadays myself - I go to community servers and stick around there for a while.

It's so sad to see one of my favorite games of all-time being treated and abandoned like cattle. Team Fortress 2 doesn't deserve the way it's being treated right now, but until that changes - my advice would be to stay away. Stay away until Valve shows they actually care about the game itself and continue to nurture and expand upon it. TF2 has so much room to grow, so much untapped potential that it hurts to play it sometimes.

really fun and relaxing game. fps at highest settings is terrible on my pc with relatively good specs so i turned it down yet it still looks beautiful!

the soundtrack is fantastic. i started liking the game more and more as the achievements started showing up during my first time. currently i'm at 6 but i don't think i'm good enough yet to get all of them.
