Early Access Review
Unfinished Gearbox game, practically in the same state it was when it was released in early access. Highly disappointed, and I wish I could get my money back. Save yourself $50.00 and go read Brave New World instead.

Probably one of my favorite games in my inventory.

The scale of the solar system in Rodina is unprecedented in any other game I've played, the graphics for a lot of things are marvelously styled after 1994-1999 low-polygon games while actual solar bodies are quite detailed and realistic. The space combat is wonderful, and bares fruit from games like Descent. Now that I think of it, Descent is probably the primary motivation behind this game.

While not having much in terms of content right now, the developer is making huge strides promises so much for the game, and I have no reason to doubt that he'll come through with it all. I absolutely cannot wait for this game to become a procedurally generated RPG, with things like docking with disabled alien ships, exploring the insides of the ships, enemy structures ranging from small outposts to large bases and citadels with defense towers, scattered human NPCs, more enemy variety in terms of space ships and upcoming alien beings, further ship customization, biomes/climate/structures on the planets, etc.

It just promises so much, and for only $15 to support the developer to making his dream of a massive-scale space exploration/dogfighting/first person shooter/roguelike RPG come true is totally worth it for me.

4 hour campaign, mediocre gameplay thats just another Battlefield/Call of Duty, abandoned multiplayer servers, sucked when it came out and it still sucks.

- spoilers -

Speaking of the campaign/plot, the selling point of the game was this alternate universe in which North Korea achieves superpower status through annexing South Korea, the Pacific, and the US. This was made during the big scare of 2011 when North Korea starting waving around nuclear weapons and saying scary things. While the atmosphere is really good, the four hour campaign is what kills it. Each of the 6 (or 7, I forgot) missions take about half an hour to complete, and the finale, a skirmish to liberate San Francisco while the rallied and advancing US Armed Forces is underwhelming, taking place on the Golden Gate Bridge. The leading up to this battle is exciting, but the actual battle isn't. Run around, climb stares, shoot Norks, and then the mission ends 25 minutes in with a lame-ass ending cinematic thats about less than a minute and a half long. They were obviously planning a sequel, but the game was so bad that it's scrapped for that crappy reboot: The Revolution.

The game was obviously only made for it's multiplayer, hitching off of Battlefield. The multiplayer was decent, but all the servers are abandoned or defunct. This game should be pulled off Steam, and it's purchasers that played under 20 hours should all be given refunds or coupons.
