Great DLC. It has more difficult puzzles than the main game.

Great story and atmosphere but the controls (gameplay and UI) for mouse and keyboard are horrible.

I didn't know what to expect from a sequel to the first game but I had high expectations.
And I'm glad I wasn't disappointed.

The good:
  • Animations
Realistic facial animations and movement related animations like walking and climbing.
  • Atmosphere
Both the audio design as well as the graphics are excellent. This in combination with the lack of a HUD allows you to really immerse yourself into the world.
  • Gameplay
The combat is simple but rewarding. It's brutal with cool animations mixed with a few mini cutscenes.
The puzzles are easy but really well integrated into the world.
The rest is basically walking. But I actually liked it because you can enjoy the icelandic landscape.
A lot of people won't like it but for me this was the perfect mix and also what I wanted from a sequel.
  • Soundtrack
As a huge Heilung fan the soundtrack was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. Heilung and Hellblade is a perfect match. Can't wait for the release of the soundtrack!
  • Story
Even though the first game has a completed storyline the sequel expands it in a manner which makes sense and is interesting.
There is again extra hidden lore you can find as in the first game.

The bad:
  • Invisible walls
It is a linear game without too much exploration but since it plays in a rather open environment they had to resort to invisible walls here and there. Which is ok. But there are places with invisible walls where there shouldn't be any. One time I ran into an invisible wall that was 2 meters in front of a natural wall.
  • Price
It took me about 7 hours for my playthrough and I took my time to explore. Others did it in 5 or even fewer. I'm not saying it is too short because the length is about right but with 50€ it is too expensive. The whole experience is phenomenal but compared to the first game which costs 30€ I'd say a price tag of 40€ would be more appropriate for this one.

If you enjoyed the first game you will enjoy this sequel as well. Maybe wait for a sale though.

The Eye of Agony's theme alone justifies this purchase. Well done Cedar Jones.
