Alright let's start off, I'm not a die hard ace combat fan, but I grew up on Heat seeker and HAWX, I started playing ace combat about a year ago with number 7, I'll make a separate review for that, but I started this game under the pretense that it would be an ace combat ripoff, I was wrong.

Now background information out of the way review time.

Graphics:

Personally I love them, very detailed which I don't see as necessary (you're flying at 800+ mph you don't have time to smell the roses) is a lovely touch, the missile trails are also great.
Drawback is really the excessive orange, but that's funny to meme so I'm not complaining, though my eyes were.

Gameplay:

Haven't played with a keyboard and mouse so can't say much (I have a second hand black widow flight controller) but the compatibility is really good at making it accessible to people who don't want to spend loads.

The game plays well even on a decently high setting my pc (8gb ram, low end) gets about 60 fps.
Controls are easy to learn and map.

The planes of course allow you to make breakneck turns that should turn a person into a slimy seat cover.

Weapons are MOSTLY standard,one non standard you have the missile swarm of death launcher which makes everything an enemy throws at you invalid including the main ace

You get two 'modules' to choose to equip on the late game fighters flares (not explaining) and an AOA limiter which lets you pull off a 360 degree turn without moving.

One issue is the small amount of planes with your WSO Prez, she is basically the closest thing to a love interest, she witty and does what an AWACS would do, I like her.

Enemies, <spoilers ahead>

Run of the mill enemy pilots, easy to kill

Fancy squadrons are a minor challenge, though you better be quick to evade missiles, flares have a cool down.

Airships, hate them, you have to destroy every weapon it has to then target the main body unless you use a Anti Ship Missile

Naval forces also function the same.

Crimson squadron, I hate them, I didn't flee in the first mission I met them thinking 'I fought Mihaly Dumitru Margareta Corneliu Leopold Blanca Karol Aeon Ignatius Raphael Maria Niketas A. Shilage from ace combat 7 COME AT ME' I held my ground and chased them away *smug*

Wasn't so lucky afterwards.

every subsequent boss battle against them is at the end of a long mission leading to you relying on your Standard Missiles, relatively fun though.

until it's the 1v1 against Crimson then it's pure pain.

Missions are pretty basic, kill everything as you are told, simple.

The soundtrack rivals the ace combat games, Halo, hell even the Persona games, absolute class tunes.

Conquest mode plays out as expected, but you have the alert meter to keep track of, basically be quick or prepare for attrition

So all in all a 9/10.

Recommendation, don't compare this to ace combat, they both are great and I'd say are on par with each other.

A lovely game full of playing as the future pre-allow-all-religions catholic church, comes with some pagans to maim, some londoners who have had a few too many pints and obviously the peasant militia

graphics are good for the games release date.
gameplay is simple and easy to learn,

all and all I would give it a 9/10

it is a great strategy game that i have played since i was 5

i liked the realistic and generally hard gameplay in the campaign and in editor just being silly
