"Patience is not to simply the ability to wait- it's how we behave while we're waiting" Joyce Meyer. And I have been waiting for this game like a kid who has had way too much red cordial. And I was not disappointed, this is one of the most satisfying action-looters I've ever played. Now it is impossible for me to remain impartial through this review so I will only briefly talk about the negatives and mainly discuss the positives and if you agree with these reasons then I would strongly you give this game a chance.

Now the game had a rough launch with all the connection issues which resulted in disconnecting through the middle of hunts which inadvertently made the game harder by giving you a buffed monster to deal with by yourself. However these issues have long been fixed and the servers have perfectly stable since. The other major complaint I heard was that the game didn't have raw mouse input on release(which has since been implemented) but even then I fail to see why you need the pinpoint accuracy of first-person shooter when the target you are aiming at is the size of a bus, well I guess people to need to b***h about something. The final issue I was hearing was the game would corrupt your save file during the final cutscene, this was just the complaint of a VERY vocal few who didn't update their drivers.

Finally I get to talk about the good stuff. A lot of people are trying to draw comparisons with MHW's combat liken it to Dark Souls and they do say imitation is the kindest form of flattery, so how nice of Dark Souls to try their best mimic Monster Hunter's combat. Despite MHW only coming out this year the formula for monster hunter has been a slow burn for the fast 14 years, only adding new weapons occasionally and always finding new ways to improve their current weapons. Whilst Dark Souls(and I'm not bashing Dark Souls here) punishes you for not preparing for a fight, MHW rewards you for preparing well. The systems in place to optimize your hunts are astounding; eating before a hunt to maximize you stats and palico skills, utilizing monster tracks to find the monster or work out if its enraged, bringing gear that provides the correct resistances or the skills that can punish the monster are all vital parts of the hunt.

Which leads to the stars themselves the Monsters. These creatures are absolutely gorgeous, they act like real animals not just 1's and 0's emulating life. There are real interactions with the surrounding wildlife, you will be fishing in a pond and a couple of herbivores will start drinking for the stream then all of a sudden a giant lizard *crikey* will emerge from the growth and chew down on this creature and return to its den. And these monsters know how to use there natural surroundings to there advantage. There is one such creature that resides in the tree tops that quickly leap between branches striking from differing angles always trying to ensure its best shot at the hunter. This monsters aren't the only ones able to abuse the map to their advantage. There are several locations where the hunter lure the monster under rock traps or into a entangled mess of vines for the monster to become trapped as well as being able to draft the local felyne population into battle can also prove useful against monsters. Now MHW does have less monsters than previous installments but for what the game lacks in quantity it makes up for quality these monsters are for realistic than in previous games.

A major improvement over other monster hunter games is the maps. Gone are days of loading between zones in a map but instead just one giant map that breathes as a real eco system and can I say these maps are BEAUTIFUL, you rarely see maps that look this appealing.

I would easily recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a challenging fight and building some gnarly looking weapons and fighting giant monsters. Plus there are cute cat companions that you can dress up, if your into that.
