I am a survival game genre fan. I have well over 10,000 hours in various survival games. I had a genuinely fun time playing Last Oasis this past weekend.

The game mechanics are great. Combat, crafting, resource gathering, and Walkers! A clanmate and I created some Ballista Spider walker with armored legs. It felt a lot like driving around in little mini-tank armored ATVs.

We made decent progress on upgrading our recipes and the various upgrades to tools and weapons felt powerful and worthwhile. For example, farming rupu vines by hand will yield 2 vines, but one swipe with a scythe yields 30.

I am not a fan of the bottleneck to gathering higher level recipes using "tablets" crafted at "Ancient Crafting Station" as they're only available in harder zones not yet available, especially in tools like upgrading a Pickaxe. I would have liked to seen another tier of pickaxe before requiring Tablets.

I think the devs did a good job of combining the better aspects of various open world survival games like Ark, Conan Exiles, and Atlas. A good comparison would be Atlas with more engaging ships and less travel time between various resources. Travel from one rarer resource to another is a matter of minutes, rather than sometimes hours it would take in Atlas, but not trivial with the threat of enemies over every dune.

I'm genuinely sad I can't play right now and I look forward to investing a large amount of time into Last Oasis.
