Super Soccer Blast America vs Europe is the follow up to Super Soccer Blast released in two thousand and twenty. It is an arcade football game based around the international tournaments situated in Europe and South America, like the Copa America and the European Championships, along with some pre designed fictional club tournaments like a Mediterranean League and a Super League.

Custom competitions can be designed with a mixture of international and club teams, along with human and AI players, and the team editor allows you to alter the look and kit of each player and save them for you to view whilst playing.

🤔Overall Impressions🤔
I’ve played quite a lot of arcade football games and they all tend to be fun for a while but then my interest wanes. This is no exception. To begin with it was quite fun but I was soon able to win most games on hard difficulty against AI opponents.

The game needs an online option to prolong interest or a group of friends interested in playing, therefore, the addition of remote play is a huge plus meaning only one of your group of friends needs to own the game whilst the rest can join in for free, but obviously a proper online option would be even sweeter. After playing through everything to offer, and getting all the achievements, I spent eight and a half hours in game which isn’t a bad investment for the asking price.

With some impressive customization options, just about any tournament option you want can be catered for, including group stages and knockout stages. Unfortunately, there is no extra time or penalty shootouts which is very disappointing.

Team names, player names, extensive player aesthetics, kit colors and badges can all be fiddled around with to make your players look comedic or athletic. The problem is that unless you use the close-up view whilst playing the changes don’t necessarily translate on the pitch and are hard to see. The fact that attributes don’t affect performance means you can make your players as ridiculous looking as you wish.

I feel the game is a mixture of arcade and sim. You can put some nice ground passing moves together, if you choose a far away camera angle and can see your players on the pitch, yet the dribbling seems cumbersome with a stupid jumping mechanic, to avoid the onslaught of sliding tackles. There is a sprint button which can get you out of trouble, but defenders tend to rush you without warning when you’re running, and often tackle you successfully and steal the ball. For this reason, I was a bit reluctant to use it on higher difficulties. I haven’t quite got the lob mechanics weighed off yet, so I never really used any long passes in my build up play.

Shooting has a power bar and a generous swerve action, like most arcade football sims do. I was able to score swerving shots from outside the box into the top corner of the goal, which was quite satisfying, but the AI can also do the same and seem to be a lot better at it, scoring some ridiculous goals from some bizarre angles. I did have a bit of success with crossing the ball into the box from the wing which resulted in a few headed and volleyed goals. The through ball doesn’t seem to do what I was expecting. A through ball tends to be played into space, usually behind the defender, but it usually went to the feet of the player or slightly in front of them and opposition defences sat too far back for a proper through ball to be played anyway.

The pace is quite frantic on higher difficulties and you have to move the ball quickly or else you will get tackled. On lower difficulties you can take your time and really experiment with some build up play. There aren’t any super moves to perform, like some arcade football games offer, but you can score some spectacular goals when you have time on the ball.

There are some noticeably omissions, like no red or yellow cards for some absolutely brutal tackles, therefore no substitutions or injuries. I understand it is an arcade football game but it seems out of place when all of the other rules are obeyed; There is no commentary on any of the games, not even to introduce the teams; No replays on any of the goals; No formation change; The offside rule is either non existent or doesn’t work properly and there is no VAR to enforce this.

What I like about arcade soccer games is the bling factor. Catchy tunes, Colorful menus, crowd scenes and celebrations. Super Soccer Blast America Vs Europe was a bit of a letdown in this department. I grant you there is a nice menu tune but that’s where the praise ends.

After winning a tournament I was looking forward to the elaborate ceremony that was to follow. I held my breath in anticipation only to be rewarded with a small pop-up box congratulating me. There was no fan fair. No celebrations. Even the Neo-Geo soccer games of the Eighties were more satisfying.

Players like rewards, and the more sparkly the better!

I guess the obvious evolution of this title is to introduce a management aspect to this game, with a transfer market and varying player attributes, along with an online option. I haven’t played the original title so I cannot compare the two.

World Tour
Eight different tournaments mimicking some of the famous tournaments like The Euros and The Copa America as well as some more fictional Super Leagues and knockout tournaments.

⚽Match options⚽
You can choose from six stadiums, four different types of ball, a match length of 5,10,15,30,45 or 90 minutes and an AI level of very easy, easy, medium or hard.

There are three different camera angles with three different zoom options.

📺Graphics📺
Visuals are okay. I had to turn on Vsync to stop some screen tearing I was experiencing.
Players look quite nice with smooth animations when running and performing kicks and headers.

The crowd could be improved, as the same faces are repeated quite a lot and they don’t have any features like flags or other things of interest.

🎵Sound🎵
The menu tune is upbeat and suitable for an arcade game. Crowd noises are adequate but they seem a little disjointed with the action perhaps and there is no commentary or voice acting at all.

🍳Conclusion🍳
Super Soccer Blast America vs Europe is a fun game for a while, but it feels quite repetitive playing against AI opponents and only challenging on higher difficulties. The inclusion of remote play is a welcome addition but an online mode would be even better.

Gameplay stays true to the beautiful game without any fancy tricks or special moves yet lacks some features you might expect to see like replays, cards, extra time and penalty shootouts.

There’s plenty of customization to be had, including squad and player alterations, and about any tournament imaginable can be set up to play with your friends.

If you like casual football arcade games without the flamboyant moves then this might interest you.

Seems like a simplistic version of already existing games like that. I guess it can be fun for a while, but I'd rather go for more complex one if I'd have desire to play football (yes, football , not soccer ew :kid:).

No problem Aqua. It's a niche market.

Thanks Piston. Glad I could help. Thanks for reading.
