Don't waste your time, especially on linux.

- You only get two planes to start with, which are frankly pretty terrible.
- You're supposed to buy more planes, which cost north of $100.
- If you use the standalone (non-steam) version of this game, you can trial planes before buying them. For some reason, this is unavailable in the steam version of the game.
- The standalone version does not play well with linux. Despite days of effort, I was unable to get it running in WINE.

I honestly don't understand why they would bother putting their game on steam if there going to restrict the free trials to their standalone edition. There's no way I'm paying A$90-130 for a game expansion when the base game is this awful. Maybe if you started off with a decent plane that doesn't handle like a truck, I would have an idea of what to expect from the expansions.

A nice, relaxing game. I'd say it's worth it even at full price.

...This review is a work in progress...
This game has so much potential, but I completely misses the mark for me.
The only reason I give a thumbs up is because I understand that there are some people who enjoy this game, and I don't think there is anything so wrong with it that it deserves a negative review. But it is so very close. I do sincerely hope this gets read by the developers, as updates are still being released for the game, and some of these would not be difficult to implement. I would also like to add that I will compare this game to The Long Dark (TLD), as I currently consider it to be the gold standard for survival games. Below, I have abbreviated The Long Dark to TLD and Green Hell to GH.

!!Spoilers Ahead!!

1. The tiredness mechanic
In GH, you have four main stats, one of which is energy. Energy gradually decreases over time, and the main way you replenish it is by sleeping. However, if you run out of energy (which can happen in less than one day) you will collapse on the floor and pass out. This means you will likely get worms, and can also cause you to drown if you pass out while in a body of water.
My issue with this is that it's both unrealistic and frustrating to play with. Most healthy people can easily survive 3-5 days without rest, especially in a high stress survival situation. And dealing with this mechanic has simply been annoying; there's not sense of accomplishment when you successfully make it back to base before passing out.
The solution I would suggest is simple. When your energy reaches zero, you start loosing health. It's the same solution used in TLD, and it works really well. It's much more realistic, and it means that you don't really have to worry about energy that much provided you sleep every night.

2. When dealing with animals, you'll often feel powerless.
Firstly, I'll address the small animals: spiders, snakes, wasps, scorpions, ants, etc... These are incredibly difficult to spot, and usually when you get attacked, it feels as though you had no real control. Early game they are a death sentence.

This is easily one of the greatest games I've ever played. I don't recall ever encountering a bug, which is something I cannot say for any other game I've played this much. I honestly can't fault it.
While more updates with new content would be nice (Kaycee's mod is incredible), the game is complete as it is, and there's nothing I can see that needs to be improved upon or fixed.

Don't waste your time on this game. As of writing this review, the game doesn't have a settings menu. Pressing escape gives you the option to either continue playing, or quit to desktop. That's it.
This means you can't adjust mouse sensitivity, resolution, or graphics quality, to name a few.
No first or third person game should ever be released without a basic settings menu.

This game does many things well. The story is there and keeps the game interesting without taking up much time with boring cutscenes or compulsory quests. There are many different cool mechanics in this game which are spread out really well. The pacing in regards to how often you unlock new mechanics/gadgets is perfect. Worth it even if it isn't on sale. 9/10

The original Henry Stickmin games are absolutely legendary, and have set very high expectations for this remaster and final chapter. In my opinion, this game is an absolute masterpiece that is every bit as great as it was expected to be. To anyone who enjoyed the original games, I would highly recommend this. The final chapter is incredible. The price tag is high, but it is definitely worth it, even when its not on sale. 10/10

Decent game, quite fun to play despite an initially steep learning curve.
