A really really cool and wonderful video game that I will forever try to annoy everyone into playing. Yet no one I know will ever play it.

I love Void Stranger. I was obsessed with it. It is difficult to describe the way this wormed into my brain and got me teary eyed thinking about our human relationship with time in a way Christopher Nolan could never fathom. It's got layers like a damn onion. Always something around the corner. I filled out pages and pages of my own notes and speculations, and I actually had to. The ramblings of an insane man, vindicated. Tiles and shapes started entering my dreams, and my nightmares. I don't know if I'll ever get out of this labyrinth. I don't know, I just really vibe with this game. It's so good.

Yet nothing I say here matters one way or another, because you see a single screenshot of this game and you already know if you want the game or not. So that's all, bye.

I would not advise anyone to buy this at the full $40 retail price! It is a hard sell even at a discount. This is a card game simulator that originally developed on a fairly low budget for home consoles back in 2015, and it shows.

The main issue with it is how both the duels and deck-building isn't great to control, even by the standards of old Yu-Gi-Oh! games and simulators. You won't see the design influences of any modern digital card games a la Hearthstone. As of now in 2022, this game is practically a We Have Master Duel at Home. Sure you can download a save file to unlock all the cards in this, but do you really want to navigate this dodgy deck-building UI absolutely not meant for your computer mouse? Where is the Pause key on my keyboard and why is it in the defaults?

It is now really only worth getting for the novelty of the sheer amount of ultra janky decks and duels specifically designed as fan-service for the hardcore anime watchers. Yes, you can absolutely run 3 Pots of Greed in your deck for the story mode. Even then, it's still missing a lot of story cutscenes towards the end of the campaign, since it came out as the last couple shows were still airing. I personally don't feel too bad about spending $10 to mess with this, but I am a maniac who's watched hundreds of hours of Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and loves ZEXAL. Caveat emptor!

Narratively sparse, but mathematically satisfying.

Master Duel is a surprisingly nice way to play the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game casually. It's pretty generous in giving you enough currency to make pretty much any deck you want starting out, and there's a decent amount of single-player content that teaches you various aspects of the game. It also benefits from the breadth of online guides available for both the trading card game and this game specifically. The best of one format and the way daily missions work now allows you to do just a couple 10-15 minute duels (lowball estimate, i have to admit) every other day and still get almost everything you can out of it.

It's been fun to learn the card game too. It's a good example of maximalist game design where a dozen ridiculous systems are crashing into each other at all times and a lot of the numbers are multiplied by 100 because it's cool when numbers are really high. There's so many cards in there, so there's something for everyone.

Really cool game! There's a lot more meat on these bones than I expected. Somehow I found this one less scary than its predecessor (The Hex) despite it feeling more directly horror-like. Maybe it's because there's almost no jump scares :) HIghly recommended.

Cool and nice heisty game :)
Can be a bit crashy and buggy sometimes. On the plus side, that also makes it a fun game to learn to speedrun casually.
